DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION AN AUTOMATED STUDENT REGISTRATION SYSTEM

1.1 Introduction

This research focused on the examination and creation of a computerised system for student registration, sectioning, and record handling. The report summarises the findings of the investigation and outlines a pilot system established at The Polytechnic Ibadan.

The basic concept is outlined, as are the procedures for data collecting, schedule construction, and fee assessment. Conclusions are drawn that:

The approach was quite effective in increasing the ability to provide students with chosen courses. The study resulted in a far better student counselling system, a considerably enhanced overall student record and reporting system

a significant reduction in the manual work and time necessary to complete the registration process, and generally positive student acceptance of the system. However, there was no possibility to choose individual lecturers or specific course periods.

The studies of space management and the necessity for student information for administrative planning established the importance of focusing on registration procedures and student records.

As a result, a separate and focused research was launched to investigate the use of computer technology and scientific management practices in the areas of student registration and recordkeeping. This report will present the findings of this study.

and will discuss a pilot system created at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

Student database system can be created by developing standard software using any appealing package for design and utilising a well-known database such as Oracle or SQL database to store the student record, retrieve, delete, and edit the saved student record for any additional student data.

The student payment database records any funds or payments made by the student to the institution. Is a mechanism of storing fund payments in an electronic fashion by using a computer system and also be able to give a receipt for clarification.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The problems related with student registration (i.e. the existing manual approach) in use are numerous; they range from time consuming, arduous, and costly to proper record preservation and data loss, which is frequently caused by carelessness or even natural disasters.

1.3 Justification of Study

This project work will assist both the students and the administrative staff of the polytechnic Ibadan in the sense that it decreases the stress experienced by the students during the registration process, as well as the work performed by the staff in their respective roles.

1.4 Aim and Objectives

The major goal of the project is to create an automated student registration system.

After reviewing the registration and sectioning processes, the following elements were identified as system development objectives:

To create a mechanism that ensures each student receives appropriate counselling regarding the academic programme he is pursuing.

To develop a mechanism that maximises the likelihood of a student obtaining the courses he requests.

To establish a system that ensures proper utilisation of educational facilities and faculty.

To offer a system that promotes good administration in terms of planning, record keeping, and information reporting.

To create a solution that will reduce the manual work and time required by students and staff to complete the registration process.

To provide a system capable of handling huge numbers of students within realistic time constraints.

The system being addressed in this study is the outcome of collaborative efforts to attain these goals.
