DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ONLINE REGISTRATION PORTAL

GENERAL INTRODUCTIONS

1.1 Background of the Study

An online registration portal is a type of form requested by the user that allows the user to engage fully with the database in relation to his or her own record.

Users can store, retrieve, and even alter their records from/in a database regardless of where they are situated, as long as they are connected to the internet. Online registration portal is one of the services offered online.

Many organisations and other relevant industries have been using this service for several years. Others are now migrating from manual processes to the present information technology system.

This research project examines the registration process at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic in Katsina and develops an online application system that will assist the college in conducting registration (effectively, efficiently, and inexpensively) online.

The Online Registration Portal allows students to register for courses provided by their colleges during specified registration periods. Students can change their course selection by adding and/or eliminating courses. However, once the registration time has ended, all previously registered courses by students will be available in the system (Welback, 2008).

The project’s front end was designed with HTML and PHP, the back end was created with MySQL, and phpmyadmin served as the interface between the two.

1.2 Statement of the Problems

Manual registration exercises confront a number of issues, including:

The registration process will require a significant amount of staff to manage.

The rising nature of the system, as well as the increasing number of students enrolled each year, necessitates a greater amount of people to operate it, which has caused significant challenges in discovering a file that belongs to a specific person.

There is also a tendency to misplace or lose a student record. This is due to the crowd when submitting the registration document.
Time and cost are the most important considerations when creating any system.

Manual registration does not benefit these aspects because each department in the college is required to produce their registration documents at the start of each semester, and unused ones may be discarded after registration in some situations.

In certain situations, the form will not be ready for the students on time, and even if it is, the students must join a huge queue to get their registration form, which takes a long time.

The above-mentioned registration issues can be handled by using a computer solution web site. Some problems can be eradicated, while others can be reduced to their simplest form.

1.3 Aim and Objectives

Aim:

The research endeavour aims to analyse the current system and design a new online system using the following objectives:

Objectives:

To develop online software that allows students to register with the polytechnic online, regardless of their location.

To build a centralised database that communicates with students during registration.

To give a pre-made online registration form.

Eliminate the laborious effort done by workers throughout the registration process.

Provide a simple search for student records.
