DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF COMPUTERIZED INTERNET CAFE TIMER AND MONITORING SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study
An internet cafe, sometimes known as a computer rental shop, is a location where people can use computers with Internet connectivity for a cost, typically per hour or minute. These types of establishments are prevalent throughout the country.

Internet rental businesses began in the late 1990s as LAN shops, which are centres where computers are networked to play LAN games. Because dial-up internet connections were expensive at the time, only a few shops provided internet service.

Back then, the majority of services were focused on gaming and typing for kids. Establishing a computer rental business necessitates the identification of the following critical factors:

computer hardware, computer software, personnel, target market, and business model. Computer rental companies in the Philippines allow communities to connect to the Internet and share their experiences.

Internet cafés must be concerned with their timers and monitoring systems in order to get a clear picture of their business’s state and performance. It must also consider its operations so that it can properly manage its resources and generate revenue for the company.

These requirements apply to computer rental shops. As this type of firm gains traction in the market, operations grow more sophisticated. Several factors must be considered from the time the customer enters the shop until service is delivered.

These requirements need the installation of a computerised timer and monitoring system in internet cafés in order to acquire a competitive advantage in this industry.

Respondents in this study include representatives from computer rental shops. They are given the opportunity to analyse operational concerns, as well as the business’s time and monitoring system, including whether suitable internal controls have been implemented. Respondents are also asked to evaluate the difficulties encountered and the recommended solutions to them.

The most difficult aspect of running this type of business is manually monitoring computers used by customers. Inaccurate recording of customer sessions and poor monitoring will result in a business loss.

These are the reasons why the researchers want to create a computerised internet café timer and monitoring system. To prevent unauthorised usage of computers, the suggested solution will have an accurate session timer and effective monitoring.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The manual operations of internet cafe businesses result in a profit loss. Here are the reasons for alleging such a problem:

Incorrect logging of computer rental sessions.

Client computers do not have adequate security.

Inability to monitor the bandwidth utilisation of customers’ computers.

Inadequate monitoring of all computers.

1.3 Objectives of the study

1.3.1 General Objective

The suggested system attempts to create a computerised timer and monitoring system to assist internet cafés with their timer and monitoring requirements.

1.3.2 Specific Objective

Specifically, this effort seeks to:

Set an accurate computerised timer for computer rental sessions.

Secure computers from unauthorised use.

Provide a bandwidth limiter option for monitoring and controlling the amount of bandwidth utilised by customers, as well as balancing bandwidth utilisation among client PCs.

To effectively administer internet cafés, remotely monitor and control all client computers from a server.

1.4 Significance of the Project

This study, dubbed “Bataraza Internet Cafe Timer and Monitoring System,” will help internet café enterprises with their monitoring and client PC timer.

The solution is designed to increase monitoring, security, and control over rental machines. Furthermore, it will help to reduce time spent managing incoming and exiting customers.

The researchers selected this system since not all internet cafés employ this type of computer-based technology. Internet cafés that use manual timers and monitoring make labour inefficient.

The advantage of this computer-based approach is that it makes internet café surveillance simple, easy, and speedier.

1.5 Scope and Limitations of the Project

The suggested system addresses the main functions of an internet café, such as monitoring and time consumption of rental machines. The system has nothing to do with printing services, employee salaries, or the business’s tactics for attracting new clients. It will not cover the business’s expenses such as the electricity and water bills.
