CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

STUDY BACKGROUND

This section of classroom management and control is concerned with how things are done. Its structure, procedure, and routines have become rituals.

When procedures are explained to and practiced by students, they are reinforced on a regular basis through practice, classroom management, and control.

Instructions become more efficient when they are learned, practiced, and reinforced.

This is the foundation of all classroom management and is the teacher’s primary responsibility.

Classroom management discipline is the student’s responsibility. Discipline has to do with appropriate behavior.

To make a classroom conducive to learning, the school should not be focused on a single point of view, but rather on contrasting opinions and attitudes so that the teacher can be given the path to take based on his conclusions.

When teachers take on the role of disciplining students, they deny young people the opportunity to grow in responsibility.

A lot more accountable. Students developing procedures to help redirect irresponsible impulses is a far more effective approach. Furthermore, when adults impose some of the punishment, students have no ownership in the decision, develop a victim hood mentality, and have negative feelings toward the imposers.

There are four classroom management rules that have been identified and can be applied in the classroom for effective teaching and learning. These rules are as follows:

RULE #1: Get them in: The process of getting them in can be seen to include phrases from the very beginning of the classroom situation.

RULE TWO: Get started: this refers to the main part of the lesson, the nature of the content, and the manner in which it is presented.

RULE NUMBER THREE: Get along with them: Here, the teacher fosters positive relationships with their students by instilling mutual trust and respect. To do this sensitively, consider the mood of the entire class.

This obviously entails keeping track of who is who and when.

FOURTH RULE: Get them out: The teacher considers two phrases for concluding a lesson and dismissing the class optimistically.

This study will also be of great assistance and benefit to the government and the ministry of education, whose primary goal is to see students as tomorrow’s teachers and leaders. It would also be of great importance to the ministry of education and teachers, as well as school officials who deal directly with students,

on how to prevent classroom management problems among secondary school students. On the other hand, because continuous research in this field is not ruled out, the study’s findings would like to be used as a foundation for future investigation.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Is there a significant difference between students who arrive late to school and those who arrive early to school? Classroom and control and management contribute to the development of discipline in a school and a pupil are students who lack control allowed to misbehave? Are there any significant differences between the controls of cooperative groups?

THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVE

The goal of this research is to find a solution to a problem affecting secondary school classrooms.

The goal of this study is to educate teachers on how to make the classroom a welcoming environment for students in order for teaching to be effective.

This clearly states that in a teaching and learning situation, classroom management cannot be overlooked.

 

QUESTIONS FOR RESEARCH

The following are the research questions that will guide this study:

i. What are the issues with classroom management and control?

ii. Does a lack of proper classroom management and control have an impact on students’ academic performance?

iii. What impact do the causes of these problems have on the students?

iv. How can the issue of classroom management and control be resolved in a few selected schools in the Oredo local government area?

THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVE

The study of the effect of classroom management on secondary school students’ academic performance, a case study of selected secondary schools in Ovia north east local government area, is aimed at achieving discipline among students in that locality.

In line with this, the purpose of this research is to conduct a survey of management problems among secondary school students in Edo state’s ova north east local government area.

This study will also look for ways to prevent these management issues among secondary students by exposing them to basic classroom management controls and rules.

 

THE STUDY’S IMPORTANCE

It is hoped that the research will help to improve classroom management and control instruction in schools.

The researcher is interested in the study of classroom management and control because what happens in the classrooms has a direct impact on the students’ performance.

Students must be disciplined in order to ensure executive teaching and learning. Discipline is important because it involves all students in the school timetable as well as the teacher’s education officer’s i.e. teachers, parents, communities, policy makers in one way or another, and for example, the following generalization can be made about students attending school: they are well glad, happy, and well nourished.

 

Finally, the study’s findings will help teachers manage and control their classrooms.

TERMS DEFINITION

DISCIPLINE: This refers to the bad behavior or conduct of students who do not follow the rules and regulations of a school.

TEACHERS WHO HAVE BEEN TRAINED; this term refers to qualified teachers in education, NCE holders, and holders of educational diplomas.

UNTRAINED TEACHERS: These are unqualified teachers who have been appointed to teach in primary, secondary, or tertiary (as the case may be) schools despite having no formal teacher’s education.

RESPONDENT: a person who answers questions during an interview or completes a questionnaire as part of his or her researcher work.

STUDENTS: a person enrolled in a secondary school or a tertiary institution who is pursuing a course of study and instruction.

PARENTS TEACHERS ASSOCIATION: This is an organization in which the parents of the students and teachers in that particular school meet to discuss issues affecting and concerning the school and the students.

BROKEN HOMES: This occurs when the students’ parents are separated or divorced, leaving the children without proper care and security.
