DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTERISED TRAFFIC OFFENCE DOCUMENTATION SYSTEM

Chapter one

Introduction: Background of the Study.
Road traffic injuries are a major public health issue worldwide, necessitating comprehensive efforts for effective and long-term prevention. Every year, an estimated 1.2 million people are killed in traffic accidents, with up to 50 million seriously injured.

The World Health Organisation believes that these estimates will rise by more than half over the next 20 years unless there is a solid commitment to road safety and accident prevention, particularly in Nigeria

where most adults know someone who has been killed or injured in a traffic accident. It is a reality that many of these incidents and their consequences might have been prevented.

Therefore, this project, computerised traffic offence documentation system, will serve to keep records of all traffic violations committed by road users and also manage the commission’s databases (F R S C).

Statement of the Problem

The current system of traffic offence documentation system has many flaws, which are listed below:

TIME: – Under the current method of operation, time is spent on manual management of operations included in road traffic documentation.

COST: This is the most serious issue facing the Federal Road Safety Commission. Running the agency manually results in significant financial losses for the commission.

DOCUMENT INSGRITY: This is considered in the context of the safety contest, namely the validity of the records in the document files utilised in report generation.

In terms of safety, the system’s original design makes it susceptible to loss, fire, or unintentional destruction. This makes the system safe since the time required to replace lost data or files is considerable.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY.

This study is intended to assist the federal Read Safety Commission in documenting all road traffic infractions committed by road users.

This study also attempts to provide an in-depth look at the simplest and most effective manner for the federal Road Safety Commission of Nigeria to expand and develop in order to regulate and provide its services to Nigerians and other coteries.

GOALS OF THE STUDY
The objectives are as follows.

To improve services for the public and users.

Keep records that are concise, integrated, and up to date.

To create a system in which information and output reports are produced or made available much faster, more correctly, and in greater detail to the commission and the public (road users).

SCOPE OF THE STUDY:

This study aims to determine how effectively the Nigerian Road Safety Commission’s computerization will improve its operations.

However, the research effort is limited to the area dealing with traffic offence documentation.

Definition of Terms

INFORMATION-this is the collection of data into a comprehensible format.

F R S C: Computerization

ROAD USER DATA: (2) FRSC: The Federal Road Safety Commission is the body in charge of controlling road users in Nigeria.

(3) Road user: an individual or group of people who use or apply the road.

(4) Data- This is unprocessed information.

(5) Computerization: refers to the use of a computer to conduct activities or solve human problems, such as mechanical counting.
