CORONAVIRUS’ EFFECT ON SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

CORONAVIRUS’ EFFECT ON SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

ABSTRACT

The study sought to investigate the impact of Covid-19 on the academic performance of Nigerian secondary students. The study employed a survey research design. The sample consisted of senior secondary students (both male and female) from ten Anambra State government-owned secondary schools.

The structured questionnaire created by the students was used to collect data. The study’s data was analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The main findings revealed that school lockdowns caused by the coronavirus epidemic in Nigeria have a negative impact on students’ academic performance.

The study also discovered that staying at home for an extended period of time increases the number of illiterates in society. The study recommends that the government be prepared at all times in order to contain any future epidemics. The study also recommends that parents hire private teachers for their children when they are not in school, as this will improve their academic performance in the classroom.
