The Effects of Good Planning on the Teaching and Learning Process

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction to the Research

Setting goals and figuring out how to achieve them are both aspects of planning in the context of education. It comprises planning out what will be taught, how it will be taught, when it will be taught, who will be taught it, and how the recipient will be evaluated.

Planning is the first step in the teaching and learning process. Before a teacher delivers a lesson to a class, he or she plans it while education administrators create policies and develop curriculum that will be used in the school.

The teaching-learning experience is made valuable and fruitful by lesson planning. On the other hand, failing to plan results in a wasted and ineffective instruction. The movement permeates all levels and disciplines of education. (Egbe, 2008).

There seems to be broad consensus regarding the importance of planning as well as the shape and content of plans. The goals, experiences, and how they were organized and evaluated are all included in the plan that won everyone’s support.

The teacher must make decisions in these areas prior to the class if they are to be effective. He needs to specify the goals he wants to achieve, the knowledge or subject-matter, the process, and the successful goals. He must choose and plan the instruction of the students so that the target is developed.

He must decide what actions to do, what materials to gather, how much time to spend, and other factors. In order to judge whether the instructor achieved the lesson’s goal, he must finally choose the technique or tool to employ.

The idea that effective planning will drive instruction and produce valuable, efficient learning has a strong logical foundation. It would seem that thoughtful, thorough planning regarding objectives, learning opportunities, and evaluation would lead to teachers acting in a useful and suitable manner in the classroom. But is this premise true?

Does planning make teaching and learning more effective?

In light of this, the researcher decided on the subject matter.

Investigation should be done into how well-planned lessons affect the teaching and learning process.

1.2 Description of the issue

The quality of instruction in primary schools in the Chikun Local Government Area is rapidly declining. As a result, students lose interest in and enthusiasm for learning.

As a result, it is crucial to reevaluate the influence of effective planning on the teaching and learning process in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area. Is good planning advantageous to teaching and learning? is the fundamental pedagogical issue to take into account.

As a result, the topic of this study—the influence of effective planning on the teaching and learning process—becomes an empirical issue deserving of examination.

1.3 The study’s objectives

The study’s major goal is to investigate the effects of good planning on the teaching and learning process in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area. The particular goals are:

i. To investigate the positive impact of planning on education.

ii. To assess the impact of planning on learning.

iii. To determine the issues that hinder planning in the study’s target area’s schools.

iv. To suggest potential solutions to the issues that have been identified as impeding effective planning in schools in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area.

1.4.1 Research Issues

i. What are the positive effects of planning on education?

ii. How does planning impact education?

What issues hinder school planning, according to question iii?

v. What remedies to these issues are potentially available?

1.5 Importance of the research

In particular, schools in the Chikun Local Government Areas as well as other schools in Kaduna and throughout Nigeria will benefit from the study. especially given that they use the study’s findings as a foundation for lesson, administrative, and overall school management planning.

The study will serve as a useful resource for students, academics, and anyone conducting related research. It can serve as a starting point for independent study.

1.6 Foundational Presumptions

1. Planning improves instruction and learning in Chikun Local Government Area’s primary schools.

2. In Chikun Local Government Area, planning directs teachers.

3. Planning resulted in the Chikun Local Government Area’s educational goal being achieved.

4. Using Crusious’ (2001) sample size technique, which recommends ten percent of the population as the right sample size, education planning in schools is confronted with issues of insufficient data and skilled personnel in Chikun Local Government Area from twelve selected primary schools with a total population of 211 respondents.

1.7 The study’s scope and limitations

The study looks at how planning affects the teaching and learning processes in twelve elementary schools from Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area. In order to do this, the study investigates the positive impact of planning on both teaching and learning.

The report makes recommendations to remove obstacles to successful planning in schools while also identifying the issues preventing it in the Chikun Local Government Area.

The time period covered by this study is from 2011 to 2012.

1.8 Definition of Key Phrases
