RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EFFECTIVE EDUCATIONAL PLANNING AND STAFF PERFORMANCE

ABSTRACT

The study’s goal was to discover the link between effective educational planning and staff performance. A case study of a few schools in Lagos State.

Six Lagos schools were chosen: King Ado-High School, Girls Academy Grammar School, Ebute Elefun High School, Eko Akete High School, Dolpihin High School, and Okesuna High School. Everyone’s data analysis revealed a significant relationship between effective educational planning and staff performance.

The sampling technique used to select the sample population was identified by the research methodology. A number of recommendations were made based on the findings to improve educational planning and staff performance in schools.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

THE STUDY’S BACKGROUND

Education has traditionally been regarded as the cornerstone of economic growth and development in Nigeria, as it is in many other developing countries. The Nigerian government believes that the quality of education is the most important variable in surviving in a competitive global economy.

The need for research in educational planning, as the education industry is becoming increasingly complex to manage, it is now confronted with a plethora of complex problems originating from various sources, namely, the learners, teachers, and authorities in and out of the school, as well as the micro and macro environments.

According to Borg and Gall (1979), educational research has become much more complex and sophisticated in recent years, allowing researchers to make increasingly valuable contributions to educational practice. The goal of research is to solve a problem, to answer a question, or to determine the relationship between two or more variables. There will be no need for research if there is no problem.

The development of generalizations, principles, or theories that will aid in forecasting future events is emphasized in research. Research typically extends beyond the specific objects, groups, or situations investigated, inferring the characteristics of a target population from the sample observed; research is more than information retrieval.

Gathering new data from primary or firsthand sources, or repurposing existing data for a new purpose, is what research entails. Not only that, but research is empirically observable and testable).

The collection of data is what distinguishes empirical research from other types of research. Certain things/questions, because they cannot be observed, do not lend themselves to research procedures.

Expertise and confidence are required for research. A researcher has been used as a foundation. This forces the researcher to strive for originality in his work.

In addition, research is logical and objective. The researcher takes every precaution possible to validate the procedures used. The information gathered and the conclusions reached He tries to be apathetic and blasé in order to eliminate personal feelings. There are no attempts to personalize or prove a deeply held conviction.

Instead of proving the hypothesis, the emphasis is on testing.

As a researcher seeks answers to various questions, he or she must be prepared for disappointments and discouraging encounters. A good researcher should not expect anything in return for nothing.

According to Borg and Gall (1979), one of the first steps in conducting educational research is to develop a research plan, but before doing so, one must understand sampling, educational measurement, research design, and other important aspects of the research process.

SUMMARY OF THE PROBLEM

Despite the fact that poor education funding in most third-world countries allows the system to have manageable class sizes, adequate student, classroom space, and appropriate class utilization rates, these factors determine the productivity of teachers and students academic performance.

As a result, this study is interested in determining the extent to which class factors such as class size, student, classroom space, and classroom utilization rate, as well as teacher motivation, influenced secondary school teachers’ academic performance in Lagos Island Local Government.

Problems with school facilities Thus, a determinant of teacher performance can be stated succinctly. Secondary school education appears to be falling short of expectations.

The issue is inextricably linked to the teacher’s performance.

If teachers’ morale is not boosted, they will adopt a casual attitude toward their productivity. Unproductive teachers will raise indisciplined students who will be academically unsound and unable to use their manipulative skills to develop themselves and the nation as a whole (psychomotor). All of these issues will make the future of our youths and the nation as a whole bleak and without hope. The objectives of the National Policy on Education may not be met.

THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVES

The study’s goal is to identify school facilities, which can help determine teacher performance and have a knock-on effect on the quality of students produced in Nigerian secondary schools, particularly in Lagos Island Local Government.

This research also aims to:

1. Identifying the causes of the drop in secondary school education standards.

2. Determining the caliber and caliber of secondary school facilities in Lagos State.

3. Investigating how teachers can assist in resolving the problem of falling educational standards.

4. Emphasizing the types of motivation that teachers would require in order to be productive.

QUESTIONS FOR RESEARCH

During the course of this work, the following research questions were raised. They are as follows:

1. How good are the secondary school teachers in Lagos State?

2. What factors motivate teachers to provide high-quality education to their students?

3. What are the causes of the drop in secondary school education standards in Lagos State?

4. What are the roles of teachers in shaping the lives of secondary school students?

5. What is the government’s role in improving school facilities for proper learning and teaching?

6. What effects do regular workshops and seminars have on teacher performance?

HYPOTHESES FOR RESEARCH

Ho 1: The availability and sufficiency of school facilities do not have a significant impact on teacher productivity in Lagos state secondary schools.

Ho 2: There is no statistically significant relationship between teacher motivation and performance.

Ho 4: The government has no significant role to play in improving school facilities in order to increase teacher productivity.

Ho 5: Periodic workshops and seminars have no significant impact on secondary school teacher performance.

THE STUDY’S IMPORTANCE

The purpose of this research is to provide information on the significance of an innovative school environment that promotes effective teaching and learning. The study will shed more light on the need for teachers to cultivate a positive attitude in order to maximize productivity.

This work will be extremely beneficial to students, researchers, teachers, and educational policymakers.

THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVE

This research focuses on identifying some school facilities that, if not provided by stakeholders, may jeopardize secondary school teachers’ commitment.

The study was limited to selected secondary schools in Lagos State’s Lagos Island Local Government Area. Primary data were used throughout this work, but secondary data could be used if the need arises.

THE STUDY’S LIMITATIONS

The study may be hampered by time and financial constraints.
