EFFECTS OF MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES ON ORGANIZATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY

Chapter one

INTRODUCTION
The ability to get people’s commitment and execute an effective plan to attain the organization’s major goals is at the heart of every management position.

Strategic management is not a set of tricks or a collection of tactics or methodologies, but rather an analytical thinking process and the commitment of resources to action.

Furthermore, outstanding execution or application of an excellent strategy is the best test of management excellence, as well as the most dependable and consistent recipe for successful organisational success.

Crafting, implementing, and executing enterprise strategies are critical components of effectively and efficiently managing a company organisation.

In general, enterprise strategy refers to the game plan or approach that management uses to monitor a market position, conduct operations, attract and satisfy consumers, compete successfully, and fulfil the organization’s goals.

It is worth noting that without a clear and consistent strategy, the organisation is like a ship without a rudder to guide it in the right direction.

Modern business managers work in a dynamic environment. The environment has undergone quick and unanticipated changes, and consumers have demonstrated complicated behaviours in both domestic and international marketplaces. Competitors have used one approach or another to adjust to the volatile and uncertain business climate.

Many organisations employ some management practices to make sound decisions. It is critical to remember that management methods do not always guarantee success if not implemented correctly in business.

As a result, effectively implemented management techniques enable a corporate organisation to be more productive rather than reactive. Success in today’s industrial environment is determined by how well a firm or organisation satisfies the needs of its clients. To effectively satisfy your consumers, you need tools and solutions that enable efficient and consistent manufacturing operations.

In today’s competitive global landscape, winning over clients is a difficult undertaking. Companies that can win over clients are suppliers who offer the best combination of goods, pricing, and production, among other things.

Obtaining a competitive advantage necessitates employing top business management solutions. Business solutions are instruments that help managers meet the demands and desires of their consumers.

1.1 The Historical Background of the Study.

Champion Breweries Plc, Uyo is a manufacturing and marketing corporation based in Akwa Ibom State. The company is located along Aka Obot Idim Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Champion Breweries Plc was founded as a Private Limited Liability Company on July 31, 1974, under the name South-East Breweries. However, due to political pressures in Nigeria

the firm name was changed from South East Breweries Limited to Cross River Breweries Limited, and then to Champion Breweries Limited. The name Champion Breweries Limited was later changed to Champion Breweries Plc on September 1, 1992.

On November 24, 1974, the government of the then-South East State of Nigeria signed a deal with Messrs Haase Braverie GMBH of Hamburg (Technical Partners) for the supply and building of a turnkey brewery in Uyo with a capital of 150,000 hectolitres.

The foundation stone of the Breweries was placed on March 19, 1975. On December 11, 1976, the Breweries was officially commissioned, and its goods, Champion Lager Beer, were successfully launched into the market.

On July 22nd, a second deal was signed with Technical Partners to boost the Breweries’ capacity from 150,000 to 500,000 hectolitres. The foundation stone for the enlargement was placed on December 24th, 1977.

The enlargement, which included more advanced technology, was finished and put through trials in September 1979. The second production line was officially commissioned on December 11, 1979, the same year the company’s products – “Champion Lager Beer” and “Champ Malta” won silver medals at an international contest in Paris, France.

Champion Lager Beer had previously won an international medal for quality at the 16th World Selection for Beers and Non-Alcoholic Beverages in Luxemburg.

Following increased demand for its product, the company decided to quadruple its capacity to one million hectoliters. The third enlargement, which required significant resources, could be completed.

The company’s failure to complete the expansion strategy, along with a shortage of operating capital and inadequate plant maintenance, prompted it to close for operation between 1990 and 1991. All subsequent reactivation attempts failed to produce the desired or good results.

With the establishment of democracy in Nigeria in May 1999, the government of Akwa Ibom State made reactivating the brewery a top priority. As a result, the Akwa Ibom Investment and Industrial Promotion Council (AKIIPOC) was tasked with reactivating the company.

In accordance with this mandate, AKIPOC, in collaboration with the company’s Board of Directors, went to market to solicit core Investors/Technical Managers. During the process, Messrs. Montgomery Ventures incorporated of Panama was identified and brought into the company as core Investors/Technical Managers.

Following a Memorandum, the Company’s Board of Directors established a reactivation committee to work with core Investors/Technical Managers to revamp the company.

The reactivation process, which began in February 2000, lasted around nineteen months. The company has been overhauled and reformed to use 100% locally produced raw materials. The brewery is currently fully operational, with an annual production capacity of 500,000 hectolitres.

The reactivated brewery was officially commissioned on October 23, 2001. Champion Lager Beer is now on the market and performing well.

Already, the firm has successfully held an extra-ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders, which approved the expansion of the company’s authorised share capital from N25 million to N450 million. The second part of the reactivation programme has already started.

The goal is to diversify the company’s products and increase capacity to 1,000,000 hectolitres per year. Champion Breweries Plc, Uyo is a production and marketing organisation that includes the following departments:
