ASSESSMENT OF TIME MANAGEMENT

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated time management in a variety of operations at the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo, Taraba state. The study’s objectives were to investigate the benefits of time management and the consequences of poor time management

to identify the factors associated with poor time management and strategies for achieving organisational goals, and to assess the impact of socioeconomic and institutional variables on achieving overall organisational goals through time management in Federal Medical Centre Jalingo, Taraba state.

The study used a questionnaire survey; a structured Time Management Questionnaire (TMQ) was prepared and distributed to 292 hospital workers selected at random from a population of 1084 hospital employees.

The acquired data were evaluated using descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, Likert scale tests, and regression analysis. The findings revealed that 77% of those interviewed had more than five years of experience. In addition, time management enables the scheduling of work plans, dealing with interruptions, and categorising jobs.

However, poor time management causes distractions from vital tasks, procrastination, disorganisation, and delays in information circulation. Furthermore, time management enables daily goal planning, deadline setting, and task organisation.

However, respondents noted that the Federal Medical Center’s management has taken steps to alleviate the repercussions of poor time management. These include organising time management workshops and reducing bureaucracy across all activities.

The length of time (years) in service at Federal Medical Centre has a major impact on successful time management and meeting overall management goals.

Based on the findings, the study advises that workers be trained in systematic time management, as well as time management techniques and concepts. Time management tools such as a time log, timetable, and Gantt chart should be implemented to help staff manage their time more successfully. Management should issue clear policies, rules, and regulations to staff in order to save time.
