STRATEGIC PLANNING AND ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

Abstract:

The study looked at how strategic planning and organisational performance affected selected enterprises in Port Harcourt. The research design used was the quasi-experimental design.

The Pearson product moment correlation coefficient was employed to test the proposed hypothesis at the 0.05 percent level of significance, with a population of 112 employees, representing managers of various categories in the selected organisations.

The findings demonstrated that strategic planning has a favourable and significant impact on the business’s goal and vision, as well as staff participation, inner and outer orientations. The study, however, found that there is no substantial association between strategic planning and organisational effectiveness.

Based on the findings and conclusions presented above, it was recommended that organisations use strategic planning activities with purpose and productivity, and that they adopt multidimensionality of organisational effectiveness rather than relying on financial indicators for performance measurement.

Furthermore, organisations should provide for flexibility in their planning to mitigate the impact of policy changes resulting from an ever-changing and unpredictable business environment.
