DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTER-DRIVEN STOCK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Chapter One: Introduction

The modern industrial world is technologically advanced, and there is fierce global competition. A computer user is presented with two sources of information:

HARDWARE and SOFTWARE. Much of the software will be programmes that allow for the quick and automatic management of computer system resources.

Background of the study

The term “Stock Management System” refers to nearly any stock-related solution. This software package gives direction for all stock management purposes; as a result, the current demand for such software has become necessary.

This project will provide for the computerization of a small firm whose primary purpose is to maintain track of their inventory and stock process and to transition from paper-based transactions to computerised transactions.

To optimise stock management procedures, you must have robust capability for controlling your logistics facilities. Support for stock management allows you to register and track commodities based on both amount and value.

Stock management functions include internal warehouse transportation and storage.

Using this programme, we can save money on warehousing, transportation, order fulfilment, and material handling while increasing customer service.

You may considerably increase inventory rotations, optimise the flow of goods, and shorten paths within your warehouse or distribution centre. Stock management also improves cash flow, visibility, and decision-making.

This software is user-friendly and therefore simple to use.

Employees can plan, enter, and document warehouse and internal stock movements, such as products issues, storage, picking and packing, physical stock transfers, and transfer postings.

1.2. Statement of the Problem

Manual systems are time-consuming, inefficient, and inaccurate when compared to computerised systems.

So, here are some problems of the old system:

Slow data processing.

A lot of paperwork.

Time intensive.

Drawbacks include decreased accuracy, inefficiency, and excessive paperwork.

Slow data processing.

Not user-friendly environment.

It is difficult to retain old records.

Aims of the Study

The objectives of the study include the following:

To design a computer-based stock management system

To ensure a good and accurate record.

To improve worker effectiveness and create reports on all commodities in stock.

Keep track of products in terms of quantity.

1.4. Objectives Of The Study

The effort is intended to help with stock control. The primary goal of the new system includes:

Create a computer-driven stock management system that can record and track commodities based on both amount and value.
To create reports on all activities.

Design and develop a central database system that will function as a database and hold information about the entire stock.
