ROLE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Chapter one
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Education remains a pivot around which the wheels of society turn. Farrant (1964) described education as the process of learning to function as a valuable and accepted member of society. This definition clearly states that the essence of education is utility.
So, as every society desires to reach a sustainable level of economic development, citizens may be able to accomplish this by engaging in entrepreneurial activity. This is because the public sector alone cannot achieve the desired degree of development.
Furthermore, a society’s success in entrepreneurship is determined by the entrepreneur’s talents and expertise. Education also provides a person with necessary abilities, which will lead to improved performance in his chosen career.
In line with this, Business Education is defined as an education in and about business that can prepare a person to succeed as an entrepreneur. This is due to the fact that it provides beneficiaries with abilities necessary for business success.
Furthermore, entrepreneurship emphasises a person’s ability to seek out investment opportunities in his environment as well as establish and run a firm based on such prospects.
Based on the presentation above, it is clear that business education can play an important role in the development of entrepreneurship in Akwa Ibom State, and indeed in all countries throughout the world. This is due to the fact that it is based on Akwa Ibom State’s business education curriculum.

all of which are required for the growth and survival of business operations. Given this context, the paper examines the role of business education on the development of entrepreneurship in Akwa Ibom State.
1.2 Statement of Problem
Depending on one’s point of view, the phrase Business Education can take on a range of meanings. Business education is the systematic instruction of students on the fundamental theories and procedures of business.
It also contributes to the achievement of the overall goals of education at any level, as its primary goal is to prepare people to enter a vocation to provide efficient services and advance from their current level of employment to higher levels (Osualala 2003).
Basis business education provides every individual with the opportunity to develop the skills, abilities, and understanding required to competently manage his personal business affairs
as well as to gain an understanding of the vocational opportunities available in the broad field of business and to assume citizenship responsibilities through enlightened participation in the business system. How true is that? Does business education contribute to the development of entrepreneurship in Akwa Ibom State?
