INTRODUCTION
The Study’s Background
University e-libraries have made research more interesting by achieving the status of an intellectually organized information resource center and a world of knowledge at the fingertips of researchers. Adoption of a university e-library is a good fit for making researchers, students, faculty members, and the university more research-focused.
The rationale for the implementation of e-libraries in Nigerian universities is solely to provide electronic and online resources for faculty and students in order to enhance educational development and provide educational resources for effective teaching, learning, and research activities.
The electronic library achieves its goals by allowing users to access and retrieve appropriate information that meets their information needs at their “beck and call.” The responsibility of the university e-library is to provide instant access to digitized information, electronic information resources, and services using computer or telecommunication technologies.
An electronic library acquires, processes, stores, evaluates, and disseminates information to a target audience via electronic means. It can be used to achieve national and community development by providing relevant information for decision making and policy enhancement.
Data management, information retrieval, library science, document management, information systems, the web, image processing, and artificial intelligence are all branches of computer science that are shared by an electronic library.
The multidisciplinary nature of electronic libraries encourages flexibility in definitions, making it difficult to have a single definition of an e-library. The format, form, and nature of digital libraries, on the other hand, provide a clearer picture of what a digital library is.
The electronic library is a library in which some or all of the library’s holdings are available in electronic format, and the library’s services are also made available electronically-frequently over the Internet so that users can access them remotely (Onwuchekwa and Jegede, 2011). According to Hirsh (2014), the mission of an e-library is to provide both information services and educational resources.
