1.0 Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

It is critical to understand every notion underlying the schedule of tasks, the discharge of those responsibilities, and the accountable aspects that will aid in the appropriate execution of an objective decision.

However, business in Nigeria, whether corporate, private, or entrepreneurial, has fallen short of expectations. In this regard, it is critical to investigate the root reasons of their problem.

Furthermore, team building has been the most underutilised important strategy for reaching corporate organisation goals. Thus, the current methods in Nigeria do not allow for the spirit of teamwork to prevail. Teamwork is critical for any organization’s success in meeting its corporate goals.

Furthermore, developing a high-performing team requires leadership. As a result, leadership in today’s business environment has never been more crucial or complex than it is now. The dynamic nature of business practice and the environment has significantly challenged the way things are done in the business sector.

The techniques and structures that functioned during periods of stability have failed in this time of rapid change. However, this requires a reconsideration. As a result, new leadership styles are required to support new strategies, structures, and processes. Today’s leaders must be able to tap into the group’s resources, that is, leaders who can unleash initiative and leadership in everyone. (maxwell, 1977).

Furthermore, as a practicing entrepreneur, if you actually want to construct an efficient team or become a master mechanic of team effectiveness, you must grasp what goes on behind the scenes of a successful team.

As a result, one must recognise that we live in a changing world, and that a company’s capacity to continually supply quality, service, and value will define its competitive edge. As a result, the organisation must perform its functions more efficiently, quickly, cheaply, and with less resources.

Based on the available information, Macmillan (2001) concluded that every member of the organisation must be involved in getting the organisation to its objective and safely anchored at the port.

However, the goal here is to disperse the stress of change and build a structure with speed, flexibility, and collaborative competency that can survive and succeed in today’s competitive economic environment.

The presumption is that everyone possesses leadership qualities. The team structure allows team members to express their functional expertise. In a nutshell, the team leader is required to identify and facilitate the collective element of leadership inside the team.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Numerous causes have been found that could jeopardise an organization’s existence, such as human resource issues, inadequate leadership control, failure to function as a unit, evading responsibilities, and so on.

All of this might be ascribed to a lack of team spirit, which continues to be a problem in our world.

In the past, Bank PHB struggled to define the concept of teamwork. This could be evident in the fact that they previously introduced a product that did not see the light of day.

However, the New Bank PHB has been able to grasp the concept of teamwork; recently, a Bank PHB-sponsored programme titled Apprentice African has highlighted that it is critical to work as a team in order to reach a collective outcome and be commended for that success.

1.3 GOALS OF THE STUDY

The purpose of this project is to examine the importance of a team in an organisation in achieving corporate goals and objectives, as well as to investigate how team building can and would enhance an organization’s corporate achievement, as well as to propel ways of building a good team towards corporate achievement and goals.

However, the study’s objectives are as follows.

i. To demonstrate how a team may simply accomplish more than an individual can alone, i.e. the synergy effect and principle.

ii. To demonstrate how a team provides varied ideas and methods for achieving a goal because individual perceptions are rarely as broad and deep as a team as a whole. When it accepts a challenge.

iii. To demonstrate how a team develops new solutions to improve an organization’s effectiveness, cohesiveness, and unity in attaining business goals and objectives.

iv. To emphasise the value of a team in achieving and providing more resources, ideas, ingenuity, and energy than an individual or group can do alone.

1.4 Significance of the Study

The purpose of this research is to help organisations, companies, and government parastatals understand and focus on how teamwork is critical to organisational corporate success.

Also, to learn how team building can help an organisation, government parastatals, and corporations achieve its corporate goals and objectives in order to contribute effectively and efficiently to management or board directors in order to improve and motivate cooperation, commitment, and dedication among employees to work together to achieve corporate goals.

1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This research work is expected to cover some aspects of team building types, importance, challenges, how to improve the team, how it can be formed, different types of responsibilities that can be assigned to each type of team building to the organisation in the Bank PHB,

how they will actualize their roles and performance in the Bank PHB to the human resource department or personnel department for proper achievement of the organization’s goals and objectives.

1.6 Limitations of the Study

This project effort has been significantly hampered by the following constraints.

1. Time restrictions.

2. Financial restrictions.

3. Material restrictions.

1.8 Definition of Terms

i. Time constraints: The time spent travelling to find knowledge and necessary materials, as well as composing the project, is a constraint.

ii. Financial constraints: A large sum of money is required to complete this research successfully and to generate valid generalisations about a population. To provide an accurate depiction of the complete population, a reasonably large sample size must be used.

iii. Material constraints: Obtaining materials for this project is limited since additional information is sought from the library and the internet (website).
