GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION

1.0 Introduction.

This chapter provides an introduction to the counselling management system. It includes an introduction, theoretical background, study goals and objectives, significance, scope, research organisation, and word definitions.

1.1 Theoretical background

Counselling is a type of education that students receive from their counsellors. The goal of adding guidance and counselling into the educational system was to minimise the widespread ignorance of many young people about their job options and personality maladjustment among schoolchildren.

The use of ICT in guidance can be viewed in three ways: as a tool, an alternative, or a change agent. The rise of websites and help lines as forms of technically mediated service delivery means that ICT has more potential as a change agent than ever before.

Telephones, websites, and e-mail, in addition to face-to-face facilities, could be alternative services or portals into a large, flexible, and well-harmonized network of services.

The goal of adding guidance and counselling into the educational system was to minimise the widespread ignorance of many young people about their job options and personality maladjustment among schoolchildren.

Based on these and other factors, career officers and counsellors were assigned to educate students about the importance of making an informed career choice.

However, it is critical to design a system that can function in the absence of human specialists, which has led to the application of artificial intelligence in guidance and counselling.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The following issues have been detected in Ritman College’s counselling system:

There’s no automatic system for guidance and counselling.

Keeping track of counselling data takes time and effort.

It is difficult to tell whether a kid is a good fit for a science or arts career.

1.3 Aims and Objectives of the Study

The study’s goal is to create a counselling management system for secondary schools. The following are the study’s precise aims.

To develop and execute automated career advising and counselling.

To collect students’ O level course grades in order to establish whether they are suitable for a science or arts profession.

Create a system that will keep a database of counselling records.

1.4 Significance of the Study

The study’s relevance is that it will result in an automated system for guiding and counselling. It will aid in identifying whether a student is suited for a science profession. The research study will also be useful for other researchers looking for information on the issue.

1.5 Scope of the Study

This study focuses on the counselling management system in secondary schools. It is limited to career counselling (Science or Arts), with O level grades serving as the evaluation criteria.

1.6 Organisation of Research

This research study is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is focused with the introduction of the research study and covers the preliminaries, theoretical backdrop, statement of the problem, aim and objectives of the investigation, importance of the study, scope of the study, research organisation, and term definitions.

The second chapter focuses on the literature review, and other scholars’ contributions to the issue are discussed.

Chapter three focuses on system analysis and design. It examines the current system to find flaws and reports on the benefits and drawbacks of the proposed solution. This chapter also includes information on the system design.

Chapter four discusses system implementation and documentation. The selection of a programming language, module analysis, and system requirements for implementation.

The fifth chapter focuses on the summary, conclusion, and suggestions based on the study.

1.7 Definition of Terms.

Artificial intelligence is a discipline of computer science that creates programmes that enable machines to execute tasks that would typically need human intelligence.

A career is defined as a job or occupation that is intended to be long-term or lifetime. The overall course or development made by someone or something

Counselling – Help with personal or psychological issues, usually provided by a professional

An expert system is a computer programme that uses artificial intelligence approaches to solve problems.

Guidance – Advice or counselling, particularly that offered to students regarding academic difficulties.
