ABSTRACT
This study is to investigate the Effect of Improvisation of Instructional Materials for Biology Instruction in Senior Secondary Schools in Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State. To carry out this study, the research design was adopted for this study. A sample of 200 SS1 students was drawn randomly from the population of all secondary schools in Calabar Municipal Local Government of Cross River State. In order to test the formulated hypotheses, a 20-item questionnaire on the Absence of Laboratory Skills and Use of instructional materials and 20 multiple choice achievement test on Biology were constructed by the researcher to elicit information from the respondents. The Expost-facto research design was considered most suitable for the study. The elicited information at its raw state was further subjected to critical analysis using the appropriate statistical tools and it was evidently discovered that: there is a significant absence of laboratories and academic achievement of students in Biology in Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State and there is a significant use of instructional materials to create a good environment by increasing learning rate in Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State. Based on the findings, it was recommended that teachers should adequately prepare their lesson along with the use of improvised instructional material, and there should be room for both the teacher and learner to be skillful and creative, to be resourceful to enhance teaching and learning process.
