DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ONLINE ADMISSION SCREENING SYSTEM

CHAPITRE ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.0. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Student admissions are very significant in key operations of any institution since students are the basic requirement of the university and institutions cannot live without them.

An inefficient admission application procedure may lower the number of admitted students in a prestigious university due to human intervention, and humans are naturally prone to error.

The goal of this project is to create an automated admission system that would effect this paradigm change in order to provide solutions to the issues inherent in the existing method established by Lagos State Polytechnic.

The suggested system, Automated Admission Processing System, will be built with HTML, CSS, and PHP on the front end and a MY SQL database management system on the back end.M. Desile (2009)

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Despite the fact that students complete their application form online, student admission processing at Lagos State Polytechnic is still identical to manual processing. The current system has the following flaws.

Human interference causes sluggish operation.

Information retrieval is delayed as a result of excessive web content.

Error-prone due to insufficient data validation.

Interface that is unfriendly or difficult to use.

High operating costs.

Because there is no decision-making element in the current information system, the application still appears to be a manual procedure.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
This project aims to provide an automated online admission processing system that will help boost the speed with which student admissions are processed and decrease or eliminate work by automating the admission process to the most convenient.

AIMS OF THE STUDY
The goal of this research is to critically evaluate the collection and processing of student admission forms in order to identify system difficulties and build a new system that would help decrease or totally eliminate the identified problems.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The following are the goals of this research project:

Examine the current system to have a thorough understanding of it.
Determine the shortcomings of the current system.
Fix issues with the application process and record keeping.
Improve the document management system of the institution.
Make the system more user-friendly for pupils with limited computer skills.
Make it simple to retrieve student info.
Lighten the online material to improve retrieval speed even on sluggish internet connections.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The goal of this research is to create an automated web-based application programme for student admission procedures.

In Lagos State Polytechnic, the system is only focused on student application processing, record keeping, and information retrieval. It will also be capable of shortlisting eligible pupils and presenting them for final administrator approval before offering them provisional admission.

1.6. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The automated admission processing system will assist in reducing some of the tedious work involved in student admission processing, maximising returns for the school, and providing a user-friendly interface.
