INTRODUCTION

Background of Study

The development, maintenance, and retrieval of information is one of many organisations’ most significant investments. It has been projected that in a tertiary educational community, information is critical for accurate student records and examination data.

If student information is not correctly created and preserved, it might lead to various mistakes in usage. Okonigene (2008). Almost every aspect of the educational system demands information processing.

With the use of computers for information processing, the following are possible: instant access to students’ personal and course information, instant student information updating, automatic computation of the Grade Point Average (GPA), generation of the graduating students list, monitoring of failed courses

maintaining an up-to-date record of the entire student body in the institution, storing course information such as course code, course description, course unit, and sco

Unfortunately, all educational institutions in the underdeveloped world, including Nigeria’s universities, colleges of education, and polytechnics, continue to use the manual system of record keeping and GPA calculating.

For example, the College of Education Akwanga in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, continues to use this manual system, which is highly error-prone. The Nasarawa State House of Assembly statutes, which were published in the extra ordinary Gazette on October 1, 1996, established the College of Education Akwanga.

The College began with five schools: the school of sciences, the school of art and social sciences, the school of languages, the school of Vocational and Technical Education, and the school of education.

Despite the fact that student enrollment is expanding year after year, student results have always been manually processed since the institution’s foundation. The manual system used is inefficient since it requires a lot of paperwork, which takes a reasonable amount of time to prepare.

Because of the increasing number of students in each school of the institution, calculating the student’s CGPA has become a tough undertaking.

As a result of the challenges and faults that arise from such a system, a software-computerized result processing system is unavoidable; the advantages of a computer-based system cannot be overstated.

The effort devoted on the registration of pupils and the computation of their examination results is incredible. Worryingly, these activities are repeated each academic session, trapping the operators in a never-ending and exhausting cycle.

The computation of examination results and student registration are obviously object-centered activities, with the student serving as the dominating object in this case.

As a result, there is a need to develop a computerised process that will effectively and efficiently collect all of the critical data related with registration and examination result processing within the University, as well as object interactions.

 

Students’ Examination Result is a summary of each semester’s or four-year performance in a degree programme for ABRAHAM ADESANYA POLYTECHIC to be terminated.

A student’s Result is also required by a student who has completed ND and wishes to transfer to another institution or who wishes to obtain a job.

A transcript is not distributed directly to a student. It is sent to the school to which the student desires to transfer, or to the organisation or business that requires the results.

A student’s result is determined by the scores written on the prescribed score sheet by specific topic lecturers on semester examinations. This sincere and noble intention led to the conception and development of the Undergraduate Registration and Examination Processing System software.

 

1.2 Aim and Objectives

The project’s goal is to provide a comprehensive, implementable web-based software or programme to automate the GPA grading system for quick access, processing, and trustworthy student results. The precise aims include:

 

To ease the access time of student results.

To improve the speed of the findings.

To eliminate errors that occur during manual processing.

To provide a security safeguard to prevent students from manipulating marks on their results sheets.

 

1.3 Scope of the Project

The scope of study is determined by the degree of extension. At Abraham Adesana Polytechnic, grades start with Distinctions, followed by upper credit, lower credit, pass, and fail. Distinctions indicate a 3.50 or higher.

Upper credit equals 3.00-3.49.

Lower credit equals 2.50-2.99.

Pass equals 2.00-2.49.

Failure ranges from 0.00 to 1.99. 1.4 Limitations and restrictions.

Financial constraints and inconsistency in the institute’s economic foundation were significant barriers to this investigation. In addition, the investigation was severely hampered by a lack of necessary resources and time to complete the assignment.

 

1.5 Research Methodology

This research uses only one main method to collect basic functional facts and data required for the creation of this software.

Direct interview: This strategy is required in order to obtain credible information about how the student results are now graded.
Document inspection; the term document refers to paper or data that has been recorded, including pre-printed results. The documents were obtained from the examining officer.
