The significance of conserving natural resources

The significance of conserving natural resources

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE

Natural resources include the entire natural environment of the planet. A resource is anything that satisfies a need or desire of human civilization. Early societies’ extensive use of wood depleted the earth’s resources, forcing them to turn to a new resources when the old one ran out. Renewable resources consist of fossil fuels, minerals, and so on. Over the years, man has increasingly relied on these natural resources for food, materials, and energy. The consequence of this is the threat of nonrenewable resource depletion.

Renewable resources have been depleted faster than they can be replenished, resulting in environ degradation. If we are to continue existing on this planet, we must conserve our natural resources (Ramalingan, et al, 1979). The term conservation is derived from two Latin words: “Con,” which means together, and “servare,” which means to keep or guard.

equently, conservation means literally to keep together. Today, we view conservation as the prudent use of our natural resources, as opposed to maintaining the status quo. According to Ramalingua et al. (1979), to conserve something is to safeguard and maintain its health. In the current context, ensuring a high quality of life for humans through the prudent use and management of the natural environment is implied.

This definition has a broad scope, as it considers the protection of nature (forest, soil, wildlife, etc.) to enrich our lives, as well as the controlled and planned production of useful materials from the living environment (crops, fisheries), among other things.

The controlled use of natural resources is a corporate concept that involves manipulation and decision-making, but first we must understand what our natural resources are and what role they play in the ecosystem. Aido Leopard (1979), a renowned conservationist, stated that in order to practice conservation, individuals must understand ecological process.

The primary objective of conservation is to preserve a healthy, functional biosphere (the portion of the planet where there are living things) that will also provide for our needs, including activity reservations.

STATEMENT OF THE

The study investigates the significance and essence of the environment and its resources. It is unfortunate that many individuals are unaware of the significance of the environment to humanity, as it determines the survival of humans and other organisms. There are numerous causes for the decline in natural resource conservation. They consist of:

Insufficient education regarding the peril of pollution.

2. Inappropriate waste management

3. Poor wastes management

4. Poor ventilation

5. Improper handling of crude oil that results in water contamination

6. uncontrolled burning of vegetation

7. Illegal timber felling

OBJECTIVE OF THE

The purpose of this research is to educate individuals on the significance and value of the environment. Unquestionably, people should adopt the best method for exploring the environment and caring for nature, and there are numerous advantages to conserving our environment.

1. ervation of forest ecosystems

2. preserving the aesthetic value of life

3.

4. enhancement of the quality of life

5. Improves our revenue

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE

This project is intended to provide the residents of Ovia South West Local Government Area in Edo state with a foundational understanding of the conservation of natural resources. If the information gathered from this project is made available to those individuals in their respective locations, it will go a long way toward resolving the problem of conserving natural resources.

A thorough analysis and description of the essence of the environment and its resources, as presented in this project, will go a long way toward inspiring and educating the researcher and other researchers who may wish to conduct additional research on this topic.

This project’s information will contribute to the existing pool of ideas for planning the development of not only the biology in Ekiadolor, , but also the nation as a whole.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The following research questions are posed in this course if nature resources are covered.

Are natural resources beneficial to humanity?

Does the conservation of natural resources promote the persistence of wildlife?

Does conservation preserve the natural splendor?

Does a healthy environment enhance our standard of living?

5. Does conservation guarantee the availability of minerals for energy and exchange?

SCOPE OF

This study is limited to Udo, Iguobazuwa, Iguelahor , Nikorogba, and Okomu Oil in Ovia South West Local Government, as determined by the researcher. Farmers in rural and a few students engaged in research, particularly those in the Biology Department of of on, Ekiadolor, , are the target audience. In addition to timber cutters, who have perpetual influence in the forest, and the industrialist.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

For the purpose of elucidation, the following terms used in the body of the study are defined below.

Ecosystem: The sum of all biotic and abiotic environ components that interact.

Endangered species are wildlife species (animals) that are beneficial to humans and enjoyable to view, but are in danger of extinction. They are being protected against extinction, such as stripped hydrias, giraffes, whales, kites, sparrows, and hawks, among others.

Extinction occurs when species of reptiles, birds, and mammals have been hunted or killed by humans, causing them to become extinct.

Non-renewable resources are those that cannot be replenished once the initial supply is depleted. Examples include petroleum, coal, gold, etc.

Renewable Resources: Resources that can be replenished when the initial supply is depleted.

Pollution is the release or discharge of waste substance or energy into the environment by humans in quantities that are harmful to humans or other organisms or that diminish the quality of human life in some way.
