IMPACT OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTANCIES ON SMALL SCALE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

CHAPITRE ONE

INTRODUCTION

Engineers, managers, instrument analysts, and other relatively modern professionals now organise themselves into separate entities known as management consulting firms.

According to David Jornem 1983, management consulting has been practised from the dawn of time, with early practitioners including management luminaries such as Tarlor, Emerson, Gilberth, and Gantt. He also reported that management consulting received a boost during this period,

thanks to the work of luminaries such as McKenzie and (much later) Roethlisberger and Elton Mayo of the famous how throne studies in the 1940s. Management consulting has remained a consistently growing industry since its inception.

Management consulting is expanding and becoming more prevalent in various parts of the world. According to the rate of expansion, Jormen predicted that there may be more than 100,000 consultants in America today.

Figures are difficult to come by in Nigeria, although the last count by the Institute of Management Consultants put the number of management firms at roughly 700. Aside from these organisations, there could be 1,000 individuals providing consulting services on their own.

Management consulting has long been recognised as a useful professional service that helps managers analyse and solve practical problems faced by their organisation and to benefit from the experience of other management,

and those managers continue to influence the establishment of management consulting in their organisation or, where this is not feasible, advise the board of directors on the need to use external consultancy services, or manages themselves, at home act as consultants.

Management consulting can be done in a variety of ways. These reflect the business and context drivers in which consultants operate, the various personalities of clients and consultants, and the reviewed conceptual approaches and intervention strategies established by consultants.

Steels defines consulting as “any form of providing help on the content, process, or structure of a task or service of tasks where the consultant is not actually responsible for doing the task itself but is helping those who are.” In other words, consulting is solely for the benefit of others.

Block also urged consulting whenever one is attempting to change or improve a situation but has no direct control over the implementation. The goal of this research is to examine the impact of management consultancies on the business segment,

with a focus on small enterprises. This is understandable not just because small businesses are a natural beginning point for larger enterprises, but also because they serve as a springboard and training ground for the latter.

Small-scale enterprises are essential components of each community’s economic and social life.

It is quite difficult to define a small-scale firm. The government defines it as any industrial process or service industry with a capital investment of less than N150,000 in machinery and equipment alone.

The United States Small Business Administration (SBA) defines small manufacturing timers as those with an average of 250 to 1,500 employees. Another term found in the SBA.

Despite differences in definitions, such as those of Stanley and Moise, as well as others, they all share a common idea of the criteria, which includes the number of employees, the sales value type of industry independent ownership, and comparison with its past standards.

For the purposes of this study, the definition of small scale industries from the 1989 industrial policy will be used. Those who have invested between N100,000 and N2,000,000 in total, excluding land but including working capital.

1.1 THE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF COMPANY NIGERIA LIMITED’S DOWN FUNCTION GROUP.

Over time, it becomes increasingly critical and necessary for them to engage in management consulting, which deals with core management matters such as corporate policy and organisational management.

The grounds for the diversion are to allow management graduates who require some years of practical training and managerial leadership to fully mature and graduate into the management consulting profession.

When their consulting services, i.e., management upliftment, were known, they began practising as management consultants, providing independent advise and existence to their clients. There was, however, no rule of conduct to regulate the moral and ethical standards of individual consultants.

In light of this, the firm has maintained a list of advisory services to ensure that management who are experiencing management challenges can contact them. Once they play the role of improving the quality and enhancing the duty of management consulting,

Management consulting has long been popular in many organisations, large and small. Because of the importance and relevance of management consulting, it is vital to thoroughly analyse its component procedure and determine its efficiency.

Given the influence of management consulting, the researcher opted to conduct research on the issues confronting the Macon Bread sector.

One of the primary issues confronting the Macon bread business is the difficulty in obtaining cash to purchase machinery and raw materials for the production of their product.

One of Macon Bread’s challenges is poor management by inexperienced managers who do not grasp and are unable to foresee the environment.
The industry is changing. The daily average output of Macon bread is extremely low, resulting in higher product pricing.

Workers are insufficient, and the quality of their products is inferior to factory items due to a lack of funds and government support.
