INTRODUCTION

1.1. Context of the Study

Conflict resolution is conceptualized as the means and procedures that facilitate the peaceful conclusion of conflicts and redistribution. It is the process through which two or more parties involved in a disagreement, argument, or debate reach a resolution and reach an agreement.

The importance of evaluating conflict resolution in public organizations cannot be overstated, as it has become a crucial instrument for fostering public organizational development; as a result, conflict resolution is a crucial tool for the success of any organization. Gordon (1997) views conflict as the product of potential interactions that are irreconcilable; this arises when one party perceives that another has obstructed its interests. In any business, conflict can arise between staff members, between management boards, or between management and staff members.

Public employment policy is now preoccupied with the need for a new approach to workplace dispute resolution (Gibbons, 2007). Organizational conflict is viewed as inevitable. It is one of the most widespread problems in any organization, especially Nigerian public organizations. Individual and intergroup conflict is a ubiquitous occurrence. If the management of an organization is familiar with the areas of conflict, it will be able to make the required adjustments and modifications to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.

Public organizations in Nigeria are tasked with a variety of critical responsibilities across the country; yet, conflict can hinder their ability to carry out these responsibilities effectively. Consequently, such organizations should focus on resolving their conflicts in order to attain their aims and objectives.

Due to conflicts, many public organizations in Nigeria have inadequate operations and overall efficacy; secondary schools in the Karu local government region are no exception. The government owns and operates public organizations, which exist to offer services to its residents. To fulfill its role efficiently, it requires well-trained professionals who are not confronted with communication problems, differences in views among others, and, if at all, its minimal state.

1.2 Description of the Research Problem

Insufficient dedication of employees to their work affects their output. In public organizations, employees are accountable for a number of essential economic functions. They offer critical services to the public, including education and health care. To get the required results, they must operate in a tranquil environment.

According to certain thinkers, conflict is unavoidable; therefore, conflict must be resolved. This is the case in the secondary schools of Nassarawa state’s Karu local government region. However, it appears that management has attempted a variety of conflict resolution strategies in their business for some time.

The capacity to gain and maintain a competitive edge in public organizations is contingent on the workplace’s tranquility.
