Abstract

The study looked at newspaper readership in Osun State, with a focus on the patterns and challenges that readers face, particularly in the Osogbo metropolis. The study concentrated on major newspaper stands in Osogbo, specifically in the Oke-Fia, Old Garage, Gbemu, and Ayetoro areas. Agenda Setting and Individual Difference Theory serve as the study’s foundations.

The cross-sectional survey research method was used, and 120 copies of questionnaires were distributed to respondents via quota sampling, with 108 copies returned for analysis. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the collected data (frequency and percentage method).

According to the findings, the majority of respondents pay more attention to political, security, terrorism, sports, and business issues in the news than to any other topics. Furthermore, the majority of respondents pay a token between $20 and $100 to read as many newspapers as possible for free, with only a few purchasing a copy.

The difficulty associated with free reading is the lack of funds to purchase a newspaper on a daily basis. It is recommended that newspapers pay their employees’ salaries on time.
