Time is highly valued in every organisation. A secretary who does not keep track of time will be ineffective at work. In order to meet the company’s goals, the secretary must be able to effectively manage both her own and her boss’s time.

Time is the single unprejudiced resource that is available to everyone in an equal amount, does not cost us anything, and is completely at our disposal. We are unable to preserve it, plan our expenditures with it, never have enough of it, and cannot get it back once we have used it.

On the other hand, it has been discovered that the secretary’s poor work performance is primarily due to time waste. Good secretaries can manage their own affairs as well as those of others. According to Bennett (1989), time is the enigmatic underpinning of all things.

Time can be defined in a variety of ways. On a 24-hour day, we occasionally hear people complain that the day is too slow, while others complain that it is too fast. Even one year can be either too long or too short. As the saying goes, time is money. It is always critical that time be used wisely or properly handled.

An excellent secretary prioritises her day’s activities in order to meet the boss’s objectives and give better results at work.

According to Aromolaran (2000), time waters are ineffective approaches for carrying out necessary tasks. He went on to remark that office workers who waste time are also deemed to have vices that prevent them from accomplishing their goals on time.

A good secretary should be able to execute tasks without supervision and accept obligations without complaint.

A secretary, according to Akinola (1999), is “a very significant person in a company,” and their contributions can either increase or harm an organization’s efficiency and effectiveness.
