THE NATIONAL DIRECTORATE OF EMPLOYMENT’S PARTICIPATION IN RESOLVING THE UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEM

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

THE STUDY’S BACKGROUND

The survival of human beings, or man, is heavily reliant on certain units of life. Food is the most important, but others include housing, piped water, and health, among others. In today’s world, basic necessities of life are not given as gifts, but rather purchased by those who need them.

This is why they say there is no food for a lazy man; an idle man in this work will be unemployed. Unemployed people can be both educated and uneducated. Apart from the general belief among economic planners, educators, and policymakers in Nigeria and other developing countries. This can be accelerated by increasing educational spending. Educational programs, when properly designed and implemented, should aid in the full development of the individual citizen.

Regardless of the emphasis, many may argue that there is an over emphasis on formal education, the Nigerian educational system is not only distorted at critical points, but its basic orientation is grossly out of tune with the employment needs of its product, or with the development needs of the society (Ukeje 1986)

As a result, white collar workers are always in short supply. In recent years, many critics have called for the relevance of education to the needs and goals of society. Some social anthropologists, for example, have argued that education can be both dysfunctional and functional, and that educational investment, like all others, is subject to diminishing returns.

While scholars and educationists have advocated a close relationship between education, educational systems, and the manpower requirement and absorptive capacity of the modern sector of the danger of simply imitating the educational system of more advanced countries, and to the fact that unemployment among university graduates is becoming an increasingly common occurrence in Nigeria.

While the problem of unemployment among all categories of school leavers in Nigeria has become a serious concern for scholars and articulate citizens, only a few studies have attempted to produce a precise qualification of those important phenomena in Nigeria in terms of status, sex, age, occupation, tribe, religion, and level of education.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The prevalence of unemployment in Nigeria in the 1980s necessitated the establishment of the Employment Directorate, which is tasked with creating job opportunities for able-bodied men who are willing to work. Unfortunately, despite the admirable goals of the National Directorate of Unemployment Programs and the critical instrument put in place to ensure its success, unemployment continues to rise.

These national employment directorates have contributed to the reduction of unemployment in the Oredo Local Government Area. The establishment of the directorate of employment of job to men, whether to produce a precise quantification terms of directorate of employment conceived and planned, should be instrumental full of the individual citizen’s development.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The goal is to understand why, despite efforts to eradicate it, unemployment remains prevalent in Oredo Local Government. This is due to the fact that while collar job seekers are few, industries are plentiful.

The national directorate of employment has done nothing to improve the bleak situation in local government, which is why unemployment is not rising.

Every day, people graduate from one profession to another, only to wander the streets paternal because there is no good job.

The national directorate of employment must do something in our society to increase the number of industries in order to reduce unemployment. The national employment directors are too focused on themselves. In order for industries to grow in society.

THE STUDY’S IMPORTANCE

The study examines the unemployment rate by level of education, age, and gender in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. Solution to these issues in order to avoid them in the future. The unemployment rates among various levels of education are high in society due to a lack of employees and industries; however, only a few studies have attempted to produce a precise quantification of these important phenomena.

Because of the larger population in Oredo Local Government Area, unemployment is higher. The problem of unemployment among all school levels in Nigeria has become a serious concern to the citizen in terms of status, sex, age, occupation, religion, and level of education, in fact that the manpower required by the modern sector of the national economic in Oredo Local Government Area the unemployment can be dysfunctional, and educational investment, like all others, is subject to diminishing returns in Nigeria.

QUESTION FOR RESEARCH (HYPOTHESIS)

This study’s research question is as follows:

1. Is the unemployment rate higher or lower in Oredo Local Government Area when compared to the total population?

2. What are the causes of higher unemployment?

3. Does the unemployment rate have anything to do with gender or tribe?

4. A possible solution to the unemployment rate in Edo State’s Oredo Local Government Area.

5. Why are national employment directors selfish in their efforts to create jobs?

THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVE

This research is limited to the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State’s national youth employment and vocational skills development programs, as well as the national open apprenticeship scheme, small-scale industries and graduate employment program, and disabled work scheme.

This should be established in our country, Nigeria, to allow graduates to find employment rather than becoming useless or harmful to society.

Oredo Local Government Area has an opening with the National Directorate of Employment. Unemployed people must work in order to help our Nigerian society.
