Why Research Articles Matter in Your Academic Journey

If you’re searching for information about research article writing services, you’re likely facing a real challenge. Whether you’re an undergraduate student at a Nigerian university, a graduate student managing multiple deadlines, or a working professional balancing education with employment, research article writing has become an essential (and sometimes overwhelming) part of your academic life.

Here’s the truth: research articles are no longer optional extras. In most modern academic programs, they account for 30-60% of your final grade. A single poorly executed research paper can tank your GPA, derail your academic progress, and impact your future opportunities. The pressure is real, and you’re not alone in feeling it.

The good news? You don’t have to struggle through this alone. PremiumResearchers specializes in providing expert research article writing assistance tailored to your unique situation. Whether you need complete article writing, editing, research support, or guidance on methodology, our team of experienced academic writers and researchers understands exactly what Nigerian universities and international institutions expect. We’ve helped hundreds of students transform their academic performance by providing high-quality, original research articles that meet the strictest academic standards.

Let’s explore why research articles matter so much, when you should consider professional help, and how working with experienced writers can genuinely transform your academic outcomes.

The Evolving Importance of Research Writing in Modern Education

Universities worldwide have shifted toward emphasizing research and critical thinking over rote memorization. This means your professors aren’t just looking for a regurgitation of textbook information. They want to see that you can independently investigate a topic, synthesize multiple sources, critically evaluate evidence, and present original insights.

This shift, while academically sound, creates a real problem: the skill of writing research articles isn’t taught as comprehensively as it should be. Most students receive minimal instruction on how to conduct proper research, structure arguments, avoid plagiarism, and maintain academic voice. Then, suddenly, you’re expected to produce work that meets professional academic standards.

Research articles demonstrate scholarly capability. Employers, graduate schools, and academic institutions view the ability to write high-quality research as evidence of intellectual rigor. Students who can’t demonstrate this skill after graduation are often labeled as unprepared for advanced work, regardless of their other qualifications.

When Should You Seek Professional Help with Research Writing?

Let’s be direct: there are specific situations where professional research article writing services become not just helpful, but genuinely necessary. If you recognize yourself in any of these scenarios, reaching out to PremiumResearchers on WhatsApp or emailing our team could be the turning point in your academic performance.

You’re Writing in English as a Second Language

If English isn’t your first language, you’re already working at a disadvantage that most of your peers don’t face. While your ideas may be brilliant and your research thorough, language barriers can prevent your work from being properly understood or appreciated by your professors.

Here’s what happens: You spend hours researching and writing, but your grammar, syntax, and style issues distract from your actual insights. Professors marking hundreds of papers don’t have time to decipher awkward phrasing. They read your work, notice the language issues, and subconsciously (or consciously) downgrade your paper before they even reach your actual arguments.

International students and non-native English speakers shouldn’t be penalized for language proficiency when their academic thinking is solid. Professional research article writers understand this distinction and can help translate your strong ideas into articulate, academically appropriate English that does justice to your research.

You’re Juggling Multiple Responsibilities

Modern students aren’t just students anymore. You might be working full-time or part-time, supporting family members, managing health issues, or balancing multiple degree programs simultaneously. Research article writing demands significant time investment: research, reading, analysis, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading. Each stage requires deep focus and intellectual energy.

When you’re exhausted from work and other commitments, you cannot produce your best research work. You rush through research, miss important sources, write weak arguments, and submit papers that don’t represent your actual capabilities. This isn’t laziness; it’s a reality of human capacity.

This is where outsourcing makes sense. By engaging a professional research article writing service, you’re not cheating or avoiding learning. You’re strategically allocating your limited time and energy toward areas where you can actually perform well. You maintain quality where it matters while preserving your mental health and avoiding burnout.

You’re Stuck in Perfectionism or Writer’s Block

Some students are their own worst enemies when it comes to writing. You might struggle with perfectionism, constantly rewriting the same paragraph because it doesn’t sound quite right. Or you might experience severe writer’s block where you stare at a blank screen unable to start.

These psychological barriers are real obstacles to academic progress, not personal weaknesses. A professional writer can break through these barriers by either producing initial content you can then refine, or by helping you see your work through an objective lens that reduces the pressure you place on yourself.

You Need Expert Editing and Refinement

Maybe you’ve written your article, but you know it’s not quite there yet. You can feel that something is off with the structure, the flow, or the argumentation, but you can’t identify and fix the problems yourself. This is incredibly common, and it’s where professional editors shine.

An expert editor can provide the objective perspective you lack as the author. They identify logical gaps, strengthen weak arguments, improve clarity, and ensure your article meets the highest academic standards. This service alone can elevate an average paper to an excellent one.

Common Challenges Students Face with Research Articles

Understanding the specific challenges in research article writing helps clarify why professional assistance is valuable.

Challenge 1: Conducting Thorough, Credible Research

Many students confuse Googling with research. Finding sources is easy; finding the right sources is difficult. Your professor expects articles from peer-reviewed journals, credible academic books, and reliable databases. You need to know how to access university library databases, evaluate source credibility, and identify primary versus secondary sources.

Additionally, research requires synthesis. You can’t just string together quotes from multiple sources. You need to integrate sources, compare perspectives, identify gaps in existing research, and position your own argument within the broader academic conversation. This skill takes time to develop.

Challenge 2: Avoiding Plagiarism While Maintaining Original Voice

The irony of academic writing: you must incorporate others’ ideas while making clear those ideas aren’t your own, all while developing an original argument. This balance confuses many students. Some plagiarize unintentionally by paraphrasing too closely to the original source. Others swing too far the opposite direction and fail to properly support their arguments with evidence.

Professional writers understand academic integrity inside and out. They know how to use citations correctly, paraphrase properly, and build arguments that are genuinely original while still being grounded in existing research.

Challenge 3: Creating Logical Structure and Flow

A research article isn’t just a collection of paragraphs. It requires strategic organization: a compelling introduction that establishes your research question, a literature review that contextualizes existing knowledge, a methodology section (if applicable), a findings or analysis section, and a conclusion that synthesizes your work.

Each section serves a purpose, and each paragraph within those sections should build logically toward your argument. Many student papers suffer from poor organization where ideas seem randomly arranged rather than strategically building toward a conclusion.

Challenge 4: Meeting Specific Academic Standards and Citation Formats

Different disciplines require different citation formats: APA for social sciences, MLA for humanities, Chicago for history, Harvard for some UK institutions. Beyond citations, academic articles require specific formatting for headings, spacing, margins, and figure placement. Your institution may have additional requirements.

These details seem trivial, but they matter. Professors evaluate whether you understand and can execute academic conventions. Mistakes in formatting or citation suggest carelessness or lack of understanding.

The Genuine Benefits of Professional Research Article Writing Services

Now that we’ve established why research articles are challenging, let’s examine what legitimate professional writing services actually deliver. When you work with PremiumResearchers, here’s what you gain:

Benefit 1: Genuinely Original, High-Quality Content

Professional research article writers produce work from scratch using thorough research and original analysis. They don’t recycle old papers or use content generators. Each article is written specifically for your assignment, incorporating your unique requirements and institutional expectations.

The quality difference is immediately apparent. Professional writers structure arguments logically, support claims with credible evidence, anticipate counterarguments, and write with clarity and sophistication. Your article will stand out from typical student work, which naturally leads to better grades.

Benefit 2: Reclaim Hours of Your Limited Time

A quality research article typically requires 20-40 hours of work: research, reading, note-taking, drafting, revising, editing. That’s a full week of work for a busy student. By outsourcing this task, you reclaim that time for other responsibilities, other classes, or simply for rest and recovery.

This isn’t about avoiding work; it’s about working smarter. You’re delegating a specific task to someone with expertise in that exact area, allowing you to focus on areas where only you can contribute.

Benefit 3: Eliminate Academic Stress and Anxiety

The psychological burden of multiple looming deadlines and challenging assignments shouldn’t be underestimated. Students report significant stress, anxiety, and even depression related to academic workload. This stress impacts sleep, physical health, mental wellbeing, and even performance in other courses.

Knowing that your research article is being handled by a professional removes one major stressor. You can approach your academic life with more balance and less anxiety.

Benefit 4: Access to Expert Research Capabilities

PremiumResearchers employs writers and researchers with advanced degrees in various fields. These professionals have conducted their own research, understand academic methodology, know how to identify credible sources, and can navigate complex subject matter. Their expertise ensures your article is built on solid research rather than surface-level internet searching.

Benefit 5: Guaranteed On-Time Delivery

Professional writing services understand that academic deadlines are non-negotiable. Whether you need your article in three days or three weeks, our team commits to delivering quality work within your specified timeline. No extensions, no last-minute excuses, no compromises.

Benefit 6: Customized Solutions for Your Specific Situation

Every student’s situation is different. Maybe you need a complete article written from scratch. Maybe you have a draft and need expert editing. Maybe you need help with research and outlining only. Maybe you need specific sections strengthened while others are fine. Professional services like PremiumResearchers offer flexible solutions tailored to exactly what you need.

Benefit 7: Affordable, Professional Support

Your completed article arrives by your specified deadline, ready for submission. Our team remains available for questions or minor adjustments. We offer 24/7 support because we understand academic life doesn’t operate on a standard schedule.

Addressing Common Concerns About Professional Writing Services

If you’re considering professional help but have hesitations, let’s address the most common concerns directly:

Concern: Isn’t This Cheating?

This is the most common concern, and it deserves a thoughtful answer. Academic integrity violations occur when you submit work that isn’t yours without disclosure, claim false authorship, or plagiarize sources. However, seeking professional help and editing assistance is fundamentally different.

Many legitimate services exist: tutoring, writing centers, professional editors, research librarians. PremiumResearchers operates in this legitimate space. You’re not deceiving anyone; you’re hiring a professional to provide a service. The article you submit is still your work because you’ve engaged with it, understood it, and bear responsibility for it. Additionally, many institutions explicitly allow students to work with writing services and editors.

What matters is transparency with your institution if required and using the service as a learning tool rather than a shortcut.

Concern: Will the Quality Actually Be Good?

This concern reflects real experiences with low-quality writing services. Some providers use content mills where underpaid writers produce mediocre work quickly. This isn’t how PremiumResearchers operates.

Our team includes experienced academic writers with advanced degrees who care about quality. We’re not competing on price by cutting corners; we’re competing by delivering genuinely excellent work that justifies investment. The difference shows immediately when you receive your article.

Concern: Can Professors Detect That Someone Else Wrote This?

Professional writers produce work that reads naturally and doesn’t stand out as suspiciously good compared to your other writing. Additionally, many students work with editors and writing centers without issue. If you’re concerned about this, you can work with PremiumResearchers on editing and research assistance rather than full article writing, which keeps your voice prominent throughout.

Concern: Isn’t This Expensive?

Professional services vary in cost, but PremiumResearchers offers competitive, transparent pricing. Consider the investment against the return: a better grade that protects your GPA, reduced stress, reclaimed time for other priorities. For many students, this investment pays dividends throughout their academic career.

We also offer flexible payment options and can discuss pricing for different service levels based on your budget.

Making Your Decision: Next Steps

If you’ve recognized yourself in any of the scenarios described in this article, professional research article writing assistance could be exactly what you need to improve your academic performance and reduce your stress.

The next step is simple: reach out to PremiumResearchers. There’s no obligation, no pressure, no judgment.
Understanding the Purpose of Your Thesis Conclusion

When you’re nearing the end of your thesis, dissertation, or major research project, you’re likely feeling a mix of relief and uncertainty. You’ve conducted extensive research, analyzed data, and presented your findings. But now comes a critical section that many students struggle with: the conclusion. This is your final opportunity to leave a lasting impression on your reader and demonstrate the true value of your work.

The conclusion chapter or section serves a fundamental purpose that’s often misunderstood. It’s not merely a place to wrap up loose ends or remind readers what you’ve already told them. Instead, it’s your moment to step back, reflect deeply on what you’ve discovered, and explain why it matters. Think of it as the crescendo of your academic work, where you synthesize everything you’ve presented and show your reader the bigger picture.

If you find yourself struggling with this critical section, know that you’re not alone. Many students underestimate the importance of a well-crafted conclusion, which can significantly impact how their work is received. This is precisely why PremiumResearchers specializes in helping students master their thesis conclusions. Our team of experienced academic writers understands that a strong conclusion can mean the difference between an acceptable thesis and an exceptional one. Whether you need guidance on crafting your conclusion or professional assistance from start to finish, we’re here to help you create a conclusion that truly stands out.

What Your Conclusion Should Actually Accomplish

Your conclusion has three primary missions. First, it should reinforce your research aim and demonstrate how you’ve fulfilled your objectives. Second, it should connect your findings back to the theoretical framework and existing literature you reviewed. Third, it should articulate the significance and implications of your work for your field, your industry, and the broader academic community.

This is fundamentally different from summarizing your work. Many students make the mistake of turning their conclusion into an extended abstract, recounting everything they’ve already presented. Your readers have already seen your findings section. They don’t need you to repeat it. What they need from your conclusion is insight, analysis, and perspective that only you can provide as the researcher who has lived with this project.

Connect Your Findings to Your Literature Review

One of the most critical elements of an effective conclusion is demonstrating how your findings relate to the existing body of knowledge in your field. During your literature review, you identified gaps, contradictions, and areas where previous research fell short. Now, in your conclusion, you need to explicitly show how your research addresses these gaps or advances the conversation.

Ask yourself these important questions as you write this section:

Do my findings align with what previous researchers have discovered, or do they challenge established knowledge?

If my results confirm previous studies, what new context or industry do they apply to?

Have I discovered something that contradicts earlier research, and if so, what might explain this contradiction?

Do my findings complement existing research by adding a different perspective or methodology?

How do my results extend the boundaries of current knowledge in my field?

For example, imagine your thesis investigates employee motivation strategies in Nigerian tech startups. Your literature review referenced international studies on motivation that were primarily conducted in Western corporate environments. In your conclusion, you’d explain how your findings either confirm these international theories within the Nigerian context or reveal unique cultural factors that create different motivation drivers.

Positioning Your Work Within the Academic Landscape

This positioning is crucial because it demonstrates that you haven’t conducted your research in a vacuum. You’ve considered what came before, understood the current state of knowledge, and contributed something meaningful to the conversation. This is what separates a merely adequate conclusion from an exceptional one.

When connecting your findings to literature, be specific. Don’t just say “my results support previous research.” Instead, explain exactly which studies, theories, or frameworks your work validates, extends, or challenges. Use direct citations and create explicit connections. This specificity shows rigor and builds credibility.

Restate Your Research Aim and How Objectives Were Met

Early in your conclusion, you should explicitly remind your reader of your original research aim. This isn’t a lengthy restatement, but rather a clear reminder of what you set out to achieve. Then, systematically demonstrate how you met each objective you established in your introduction.

If you had multiple research objectives, address each one individually. Show what you did to fulfill that objective, what you discovered, and how that discovery contributes to answering your overarching research question. This systematic approach provides clarity and demonstrates thorough, organized thinking.

Consider this structure for each objective:

State the objective clearly

Briefly describe the approach you took to address it

Summarize the key finding related to this objective

Explain how this finding advances understanding in your field

Closing the Research Loop

By systematically addressing each objective, you create a sense of completion and closure. Your reader can clearly see that you’ve delivered on the promises you made at the beginning of your work. This fulfills a fundamental expectation of academic writing and strengthens the overall credibility of your thesis or dissertation.

Include Your Personal Reflection and Significance

This is where your conclusion becomes truly personal and unique. Beyond the mechanics of connecting findings to literature and addressing objectives, your conclusion should include your informed reflection on what you’ve discovered. This is the section where only you can provide value, because only you have conducted this specific research journey.

Consider these reflection questions:

What surprised you about your findings?

What is the practical significance of what you’ve discovered?

How will your work influence your field or industry?

What contribution does your research make to broader academic conversations?

Who benefits from knowing what you’ve discovered, and how?

What doors does your research open for future investigation?

Your personal reflection should answer the fundamental question: why does this matter? Why should anyone care about your findings beyond the academic requirement to complete a thesis or dissertation? What real-world impact could your work have?

Demonstrating Multiple Levels of Significance

When articulating significance, consider multiple dimensions. How does your work contribute to:

Academic Contribution: Does it challenge existing theories, validate new approaches, or fill a research gap?

Industry Impact: Can practitioners use your findings to improve processes, make better decisions, or solve problems?

Social Contribution: Does your work address issues that affect communities, organizations, or society at large?

Methodological Advancement: Did you employ or develop new research methods that others might adopt?

How to Get Complete Project Materials

Getting your complete project material (Chapter 1-5, References, and all documentation) is simple and fast:

Why Your Conclusion is Not a Summary

This is perhaps the most important distinction to understand: your conclusion is not your abstract or summary. This is where many students go wrong. They approach their conclusion as an opportunity to condense everything they’ve written into a few paragraphs, essentially retelling their entire thesis in miniature form.

Let’s be clear about what each section accomplishes:

Abstract: Provides a concise overview (typically one page) of your entire research project, including your research question, methodology, findings, and conclusions. It’s designed to give readers a quick understanding of what you’ve done.

Summary sections within chapters: Recap key points within individual chapters to help readers consolidate information.

Conclusion: Synthesizes and reflects on what you’ve learned, connects your work to the broader academic conversation, and explains why it matters. It’s analytical and reflective, not recapitulative.

What Your Conclusion Should Include Instead

Rather than summarizing your findings, your conclusion should:

Briefly remind readers of your research aim and objectives (not describe your entire methodology or all findings)

Reflect critically on what your findings mean

Connect your work to existing literature and theoretical frameworks

Discuss the implications of your findings

Acknowledge limitations of your work

Suggest directions for future research

Articulate the value and significance of your contribution

This distinction is crucial because your conclusion should demonstrate intellectual maturity and critical thinking. If it simply repeats what you’ve already written, you’re missing the opportunity to show that you’ve truly internalized and can meaningfully interpret your own research.

Highlight Why Your Work Matters

In a well-crafted conclusion, you must explicitly articulate the importance of your work. Don’t assume readers will understand why your research matters. Make it clear, direct, and compelling.

This means moving beyond academic language to explain real-world implications. If your thesis is about optimizing supply chain management in small enterprises, don’t just say “the findings contribute to supply chain literature.” Instead, explain that small business owners can implement these strategies to reduce costs by X percent, improve delivery times, or enhance customer satisfaction.

Making Your Work Relevant to Your Audience

Consider who will read your conclusion. Your supervisor, your examination committee, other academic researchers in your field, and potentially practitioners who might apply your findings. Ensure you’ve addressed the “so what?” question for each of these audiences.

Your conclusion should make readers think, “This research was worth doing, and these findings will influence how I think about this topic or how I work in this field.” That’s the impact you’re aiming for.

Final Recommendations for Writing Your Conclusion

As you approach writing your conclusion, keep these evidence-based recommendations in mind:

1. Be Specific, Not Generic

Avoid vague statements like “this research is important” or “future studies could explore this further.” Instead, be specific about who will benefit from your work, how they’ll benefit, and what specific future research directions are most promising given your findings.

2. Acknowledge Limitations Honestly

A strong conclusion includes honest discussion of your work’s limitations. Did your sample size constrain generalizability? Were there time or resource constraints? Were certain populations underrepresented? Acknowledging these limitations doesn’t weaken your conclusion; it demonstrates intellectual honesty and helps readers understand the appropriate scope of your findings.

3. Avoid Introducing New Information

Your conclusion should synthesize and reflect on what you’ve already presented. This isn’t the place to introduce new findings, new literature, or new arguments that you haven’t previously discussed. Save new material for the body of your thesis.

4. Maintain Academic Tone While Being Clear

Your conclusion should remain academically rigorous, but it can be more accessible than earlier chapters. You can use more straightforward language to explain implications and significance. This makes your conclusion memorable and impactful.

5. Consult Your Supervisor About Expectations

Different supervisors and institutions have varying expectations for conclusions. Some prefer more emphasis on practical implications, others on theoretical contributions. Some want future research directions prominently featured, while others don’t. Before finalizing your conclusion, clarify your supervisor’s expectations and preferences.

6. Consider Professional Feedback

Common Mistakes to Avoid in Your Thesis Conclusion

Understanding what not to do is just as important as knowing what you should do. Many talented researchers undermine their excellent work with poorly executed conclusions. Here are the most common pitfalls:

Mistake 1: Treating Your Conclusion as a Summary

As discussed earlier, concluding by simply recapping your findings weakens your work. Your reader already knows what you found. They need you to explain why it matters and how it fits into the broader academic landscape.

Mistake 2: Introducing New Data or Arguments

Save all new information for the body of your thesis. Your conclusion is for synthesis and reflection, not for presenting findings you haven’t previously discussed. Introducing new material here confuses readers and suggests poor planning.

Mistake 3: Overstating Your Findings

While you should highlight the significance of your work, avoid exaggerating its importance or claiming broader applicability than your research actually supports. If your study examined only large enterprises, don’t claim your findings apply to small businesses. Integrity in academic writing is paramount.

Mistake 4: Using Vague Future Research Suggestions

Generic suggestions like “future research could explore this topic” or “more studies are needed” don’t add value. Instead, be specific about what future research directions emerge logically from your findings and why they’re important.

Mistake 5: Ending With a Weak or Apologetic Tone

Don’t end your conclusion with hedging language like “while this research is limited,” “although more work is needed,” or “despite these constraints.” While acknowledging limitations is important, your conclusion should end on a note of confident contribution, not apology. You’ve done serious work; conclude by standing behind it.

What a Strong Conclusion Looks Like: Example Framework

To help you visualize what we’ve discussed, here’s a structural framework for a strong conclusion:

Opening Sentences (2-3 sentences): Restate your research aim and primary objectives in clear, straightforward language. This reminds readers what you set out to accomplish.

Addressing Objectives (1-2 paragraphs): Systematically explain how your research addressed each key objective and what you discovered in relation to each.

Connecting to Literature (1-2 paragraphs): Discuss how your findings relate to existing research. Do they confirm, challenge, extend, or contradict previous work?

Significance and Implications (1-2 paragraphs): Explain why your findings matter. Who benefits? What changes might result from your work? What problems does it help solve?

Limitations and Boundaries (1 paragraph): Honestly acknowledge what your research couldn’t address or limitations that affect its generalizability.

Future Directions (1 paragraph): Suggest specific avenues for future research that logically follow from your findings.

Closing Statement (2-3 sentences): End with a confident articulation of your contribution to the field.

This framework isn’t rigid. Your specific conclusion may emphasize different elements depending on your field, your supervisor’s expectations, and the nature of your research. However, this structure ensures you cover all the essential components of a strong conclusion.

Field-Specific Considerations for Your Conclusion

While the principles we’ve discussed apply across disciplines, different fields sometimes emphasize different aspects in conclusions.

In Sciences and Engineering

Conclusions often emphasize the practical applications of findings and their implications for future research or technological development. There’s typically strong emphasis on limitations and what questions remain unanswered.

In Social Sciences and Business

Conclusions frequently emphasize implications for policy, practice, and organizational decision-making. There’s often discussion of how findings might influence professional practice or institutional policies.

In Humanities

Conclusions might emphasize the broader cultural, historical, or philosophical implications of your interpretations. There’s often stronger emphasis on voice and perspective.

Regardless of your field, check your department’s thesis guidelines and discuss expectations with your supervisor to ensure your conclusion aligns with discipline-specific conventions.

Ready to Write or Refine Your Conclusion?

Crafting an effective conclusion requires careful thought, critical reflection, and often multiple revisions. Many students find this process challenging because it requires stepping back from the detailed work of research to think strategically about what it all means. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about your approach, remember that help is available.

Frequently Asked Questions About Writing Your Thesis Conclusion

How long should my conclusion be?

There’s no universal rule, but conclusions typically comprise 5-10% of your total thesis length. A 10,000-word dissertation might have a 500-1000 word conclusion. However, always check your department’s specific guidelines. The key is that your conclusion should be long enough to adequately address all necessary elements without becoming repetitive. Quality and content matter more than length.

Can I use first person in my conclusion?

This depends on your field and your institution’s preferences. In many disciplines, particularly sciences, third person is preferred. However, in social sciences, humanities, and qualitative research, first person is often acceptable and can be effective in articulating your personal reflection on findings. When discussing your own research process and interpretation, phrases like “I found” or “we observed” can actually strengthen clarity and authenticity. Check your guidelines or ask your supervisor about preferences.

Should I discuss limitations in my conclusion?

Yes, absolutely. A strong conclusion includes honest discussion of your work’s limitations. This demonstrates intellectual honesty and helps readers understand the appropriate scope and applicability of your findings. However, balance this by also articulating why these limitations don’t undermine the value of your contribution. Rather than apologizing for limitations, explain how future research can address them.

How do I avoid making my conclusion too broad or making claims I can’t support?

Be specific about the scope of your research and the generalizability of your findings. If your research examined small businesses in Lagos, don’t claim your findings apply to all of Nigeria or all businesses globally. Use qualified language: “within this context” or “for organizations similar to those studied.” Base all claims on evidence you’ve actually presented in your thesis. When suggesting broader implications, frame them as possibilities worth investigating in future research rather than certainties.

What’s the difference between my conclusion and my recommendations section (if I have one)?

Your conclusion discusses what your research found and why it matters. A recommendations section (common in applied research like management or policy studies) goes further to specifically suggest actions that stakeholders should take based on your findings. Not all theses include recommendations. If yours does, recommendations typically come after your conclusion and represent concrete, actionable suggestions based on your research.

Why Your Statement of Problem Matters More Than You Think

If you’re starting your final year project or research thesis, you’ve probably heard that your statement of problem is critical. But do you understand why? Your statement of problem isn’t just a formality or a box to check—it’s the most persuasive section of your entire project. It’s where you convince your supervisor, your examiners, and ultimately your readers that your research deserves attention and resources.

The harsh reality is this: a weak statement of problem can sink even brilliant research. Conversely, a compelling statement of problem can make reviewers overlook minor weaknesses in your methodology because they’re convinced the problem you’re solving truly matters. This section determines whether your project gets approval, funding, or interest from the academic community.

Here’s the challenge most Nigerian students face: while everyone knows a statement of problem is important, many struggle to write one that truly resonates. They either make it too vague (“Technology is changing things”), too broad (“The world has problems”), or too focused on definitions rather than demonstrating real impact. This is precisely where many projects lose marks unnecessarily—not because the research itself is weak, but because it wasn’t presented compellingly.

This is where PremiumResearchers comes in. We’ve helped hundreds of Nigerian students and postgraduate researchers craft statement of problems that don’t just meet requirements—they impress. Our team understands what lecturers at institutions like UNILAG, University of Nigeria, and other major universities are looking for. More importantly, we understand the specific structure and evidence that makes a statement of problem undeniably compelling.

But whether you work with us or write it yourself, understanding the 5-paragraph technique we’re about to share will transform how you approach this critical section. Let’s dive in.

Understanding the 5-Paragraph Technique for Writing a Statement of Problem

The 5-paragraph approach to writing a statement of problem isn’t arbitrary. It mirrors the way humans naturally think about problems and how researchers intuitively structure their arguments. Think of it as a narrative arc: you establish the setting (broader context), introduce the conflict (specific problem), acknowledge previous attempts at resolution (literature gaps), explain the stakes (consequences), and point toward a solution (research direction).

Each paragraph builds systematically on the one before it, creating momentum that naturally leads readers toward understanding why your research needs to happen. This structure ensures you include all essential elements without overwhelming readers or getting lost in unnecessary details.

Here’s why this technique works consistently:

Creates logical flow: Moves readers from broad context to your specific research focus in a way that feels natural, not forced

Ensures completeness: You won’t accidentally skip critical elements like discussing existing research or explaining consequences

Maintains focus: Forces you to stay disciplined and avoid common pitfalls like excessive definitions or tangential information

Blends evidence with narrative: Allows you to weave statistics and research findings into a compelling story rather than just listing facts

Impresses supervisors: Shows structured, sophisticated thinking that examiners recognize and reward

The Five Paragraphs Explained

Paragraph 1: Context & Trend

Sets the broader landscape of your research area

Highlights relevant trends, developments, or shifts in your field

Establishes why this area matters on a bigger scale

Provides statistics or evidence showing momentum in this field

Paragraph 2: Specific Problem

Narrows focus from the broader context to your specific research area

Presents concrete examples, case studies, or evidence of the problem

Shows real-world implications and who is affected

Demonstrates that the problem is measurable and significant

Paragraph 3: Previous Efforts & Knowledge Gap

Acknowledges existing research, solutions, or initiatives

Identifies limitations, shortcomings, or why these efforts are insufficient

Articulates clearly what’s missing in current knowledge or practice

Shows why existing solutions don’t fully address the problem

Paragraph 4: Consequences & Implications

Explains what happens if the problem remains unaddressed

Highlights urgency and importance to stakeholders

Links consequences to broader economic, social, or organizational impacts

Makes clear that solving this problem matters beyond just academic interest

Paragraph 5: Research Direction & Value

Briefly indicates your intended research approach or focus

Links naturally to your research questions and objectives

Shows the potential value and applications of your research

Identifies who will benefit from your findings

Complete Example: Digital Financial Inclusion in Nigeria

Let’s walk through a complete, real-world example of a statement of problem using our 5-paragraph technique. This example addresses digital financial inclusion in rural Nigeria—a topic many Nigerian researchers are investigating. As you read, notice how each paragraph serves its specific function and builds naturally on the previous one.

Paragraph 1: Context & Trend

The rapid digitalization of financial services has transformed global banking landscapes, with mobile banking and digital payments becoming increasingly central to financial inclusion initiatives worldwide. In Africa, mobile money users grew from 277 million in 2016 to over 562 million by 2021, marking a significant shift in how populations access financial services. Nigeria, despite being Africa’s largest economy, has seen relatively slower adoption of digital financial services, with only 45% of adults having access to digital banking platforms, significantly below the government’s target of 80% financial inclusion. This disparity suggests that while global and continental trends are moving toward digital finance, Nigeria faces unique barriers that have prevented mainstream adoption despite the enabling environment.

Why this works: This opening establishes the broader context (global digitalization trend), provides credible statistics (277 million to 562 million users), narrows focus to Nigeria, and ends by suggesting there’s a problem. It doesn’t define digital finance or explain what mobile money is—it assumes readers understand these basics and focuses on the gap in Nigeria’s performance.

Paragraph 2: Specific Problem

Despite significant investments in digital banking infrastructure, rural communities in Nigeria face persistent barriers to digital financial adoption. Recent surveys indicate that 67% of rural adults remain unbanked, with limited access to smartphones, unreliable internet connectivity, and low digital literacy emerging as primary obstacles. In Northern Nigeria particularly, only 23% of rural women have access to digital financial services, creating a significant gender gap in financial inclusion. These barriers persist even as traditional banking branches continue to close in rural areas due to profitability concerns, leaving many communities without any formal financial services whatsoever. This creates a situation where rural Nigerians are simultaneously abandoned by traditional banking and unable to access digital alternatives.

Why this works: The focus tightens to the specific problem (rural communities), uses concrete statistics (67% unbanked, 23% for women), identifies specific barriers, and shows real consequences (bank closures). The final sentence synthesizes the problem into a compelling statement that sets up why this needs to be solved.

Paragraph 3: Previous Efforts & Knowledge Gap

While various stakeholders have attempted to address digital financial inclusion through initiatives like mobile money agents, simplified Know-Your-Customer (KYC) requirements, and government-funded literacy programs, these efforts have yielded limited success in rural areas. Government policies focused on infrastructure development have primarily benefited urban centers, while digital literacy programs designed for urban populations don’t account for the unique context of rural communities. Current research has extensively documented access barriers and technical obstacles, but offers limited insight into effective strategies for overcoming cultural resistance and building trust in digital financial services among rural populations, particularly among women and elderly citizens who are most likely to distrust digital systems.

Why this works: Acknowledges that efforts exist (mobile money agents, literacy programs), explains why they haven’t worked (focus on urban areas), and identifies the specific research gap (cultural factors and trust-building). This is where you demonstrate you’ve done your literature review and understand what’s already been attempted.

Paragraph 4: Consequences & Implications

The persistent digital financial exclusion of rural communities carries significant socioeconomic implications for Nigeria’s development trajectory. Without access to digital financial services, rural small businesses struggle to participate in e-commerce and digital value chains, limiting their growth potential and contribution to the national economy. The lack of digital financial access also hampers the effectiveness of government social welfare and emergency programs—a lesson painfully learned during the COVID-19 pandemic when rural residents couldn’t receive direct cash transfers due to lack of registered digital accounts. Furthermore, continued reliance on cash transactions exposes rural populations to security risks, prevents them from building formal credit histories, and perpetuates the cycle of financial exclusion that disadvantages rural communities economically.

Why this works: Shows clear consequences (limited business growth, inability to receive government transfers, security risks) that extend beyond just the research interest. The COVID-19 reference grounds this in real experience many readers understand. This paragraph creates urgency and makes clear that this problem affects real people and the nation’s economy.

Paragraph 5: Research Direction & Value

This research aims to investigate effective strategies for increasing digital financial adoption in rural Nigeria, with particular focus on addressing cultural barriers and building institutional trust. By examining successful cases of digital financial inclusion in similar rural African contexts and analyzing how community-based approaches can foster trust, this study seeks to develop a practical framework for sustainable digital financial inclusion that accounts for local cultural nuances and practical constraints. The findings will be valuable for policymakers designing financial inclusion programs, financial institutions developing rural strategies, development organizations implementing inclusion projects, and contribute to the broader academic understanding of how trust and cultural factors influence technology adoption in developing economies.

Why this works: Clearly states what you’ll investigate (cultural barriers and trust), indicates your approach (examining successful cases, analyzing community approaches), and identifies concrete beneficiaries (policymakers, financial institutions, development organizations). It doesn’t promise to solve the problem—just to contribute valuable insights.

Note: Notice throughout this example that we haven’t included long definitions, haven’t gone off on tangents, and haven’t tried to cover everything about financial inclusion. We’ve stayed tightly focused on a specific problem in a specific context. This focus is what makes statements of problem powerful.

Second Example: Cybersecurity in Nigerian SMEs

Here’s another complete statement of problem example, this time addressing cybersecurity vulnerabilities in Nigerian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). This example shows how the 5-paragraph technique works across different research contexts.

Paragraph 1: Context & Trend

The exponential growth of digital transformation among businesses globally has made cybersecurity a critical concern, with cyber attacks causing estimated annual losses of $6 trillion worldwide. In Nigeria, the rapid adoption of digital tools for business operations—accelerated by pandemic-driven remote work adoption—has created new vulnerabilities and expanded the attack surface for malicious actors. Recent industry reports indicate a 177% increase in cyber attacks targeting Nigerian businesses between 2020 and 2023, with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) becoming increasingly attractive targets due to their typically weaker security infrastructure compared to enterprise-level organizations.

Paragraph 2: Specific Problem

Despite the escalating threat landscape, Nigerian SMEs demonstrate alarming unpreparedness for cyber threats. A recent industry assessment reveals that 82% of Nigerian SMEs lack basic cybersecurity protocols such as firewalls, antivirus software, or employee security awareness training. A 2023 cybersecurity report found that 67% of Nigerian SMEs experienced at least one cyber attack in the past year, with average losses of ₦3.5 million per incident—a devastating amount for businesses with limited financial buffers. More concerning, 73% of affected businesses lack formal incident response plans, leaving them vulnerable to repeated attacks and potentially catastrophic data breaches that could force permanent closure.

Paragraph 3: Previous Efforts & Knowledge Gap

While comprehensive cybersecurity frameworks and solutions exist for enterprise-level organizations, these resources prove impractical or financially unfeasible for SMEs operating with limited budgets and technical expertise. Current research predominantly examines technical security solutions and frameworks designed for large organizations with dedicated IT departments and significant security investments. Existing studies have paid insufficient attention to the unique constraints facing Nigerian SMEs—limited IT expertise, budget restrictions, and resource limitations—or the critical role that organizational culture and employee behavior play in cybersecurity readiness within this specific context. This creates a significant gap between available cybersecurity solutions and the practical needs of resource-constrained Nigerian SMEs.

Paragraph 4: Consequences & Implications

The continued vulnerability of Nigerian SMEs to cyber threats poses risks extending far beyond individual businesses. Compromised SMEs often serve as entry points for attackers to penetrate larger organizations within their supply chains, threatening the integrity of entire business ecosystems and financial networks. The financial impact of successful attacks forces many SMEs to either cease operations entirely or revert to less efficient manual processes, undermining Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda. Moreover, the lack of confidence in cybersecurity capabilities discourages SMEs from adopting potentially beneficial digital tools and platforms, hampering their competitiveness in an increasingly digital marketplace and limiting their growth potential.

Paragraph 5: Research Direction & Value

This study seeks to develop a practical, cost-effective cybersecurity framework specifically tailored to the needs and capabilities of Nigerian SMEs. By examining successful cybersecurity practices among resource-constrained organizations and analyzing the behavioral and organizational culture aspects of cybersecurity implementation, this research aims to bridge the gap between theoretical security frameworks and practical implementation challenges. The findings will contribute to both academic understanding of SME cybersecurity in developing economies and provide actionable guidelines that business owners, managers, and policymakers can implement immediately to strengthen their organizations’ security posture.

Best Practices and Professional Tips for Writing Your Statement of Problem

Now that you understand the structure, here are proven practices that make statements of problem truly shine. These are techniques we use at PremiumResearchers when crafting statements of problem for clients, and they work consistently across disciplines.

1. Ground Everything in Recent, Credible Evidence

Never make claims without evidence. Every significant statement in your problem statement should be supported by data, research, or established facts. Use statistics from reputable sources (peer-reviewed journals, government reports, international organizations). Avoid vague phrases like “many people” or “it’s widely known”—instead, cite the actual number and source: “67% of rural adults remain unbanked, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s 2023 financial inclusion survey.”

When citing statistics, consider the publication date and relevance. Try to use the most recent data available, but don’t force outdated statistics just to fill space. Examiners notice and penalize weak evidence choices.

2. Maintain Relentless Focus on Your Specific Problem

The statement of problem should be tightly focused, not broadly ambitious. Don’t try to address every aspect of your research area. Instead, identify the specific problem within the broader context. Compare these two approaches:

Too Broad: “Digital financial services have many challenges in Nigeria.”

Appropriately Focused: “Rural women in Nigeria face specific barriers—limited smartphone access, unreliable connectivity, and low digital literacy—that prevent them from adopting digital financial services, while existing solutions fail to address the trust and cultural factors that drive adoption decisions.”

The focused version clearly delineates what problem you’re addressing, who it affects, and why existing solutions are insufficient. This clarity is what gets projects approved.

3. Use Strategic Transition Sentences Between Paragraphs

Your five paragraphs should feel connected, not like separate essays. Use transition sentences that bridge paragraphs. For example:

“While these global trends are encouraging, Nigeria presents a starkly different picture…” (transitions from global context to Nigeria-specific problem).

“Government initiatives and private sector efforts have attempted to address these barriers, yet significant gaps remain…” (transitions from problem to existing solutions/gaps).

These connectors create the “story” quality that makes strong problem statements memorable and persuasive.

4. Show Impact Through Specific Examples, Not General Claims

Instead of saying “the problem has serious consequences,” give concrete examples:

Weak: “This problem has important implications.”

Strong: “During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government attempted to disburse emergency cash transfers to vulnerable households, but 34% of intended recipients couldn’t receive payments because they lacked registered digital accounts, demonstrating how financial exclusion becomes a humanitarian issue during crises.”

Specific examples demonstrate depth of understanding and make the problem real to readers.

5. Acknowledge the Problem’s Complexity Without Getting Lost in It

Sophisticated problem statements recognize that problems are multifaceted. Your job isn’t to solve everything—it’s to identify and focus on a specific, manageable aspect. For example: “While digital financial exclusion results from multiple factors including infrastructure, policy, and individual behavior, this study focuses specifically on the trust and cultural factors that prevent adoption, as current research provides limited understanding in this area.”

This shows intellectual maturity and realistic scope.

6. Avoid Lengthy Definitions—They Weaken Your Problem Statement

Many students waste valuable space defining terms. Don’t write: “Digital financial inclusion refers to the provision of financial services to previously unbanked populations through digital channels, which includes mobile money, internet banking, and digital wallets.” This belongs in your literature review or definition of terms section, not your problem statement.

If you must mention a term readers might not know, define it briefly in passing: “digital financial services (mobile money, internet banking, and digital wallets)” rather than dedicating sentences to it.

7. Prefer Active Voice and Dynamic Language

Passive and weak: “It has been observed that barriers exist to digital financial inclusion in rural areas.”

Active and strong: “Rural communities face persistent barriers to digital financial inclusion, including limited smartphone access, unreliable internet connectivity, and insufficient digital literacy.”

Active voice creates energy and conviction. It makes your problem statement more compelling and easier to read.

Common Mistakes That Weaken Your Statement of Problem

Understanding what NOT to do is just as important as knowing what to do. Here are the mistakes we see most frequently in student problem statements—and how to avoid them.

Mistake 1: Making Claims Without Evidence

Every significant claim needs backing. Phrases like “many researchers believe,” “it is generally accepted,” or “studies show” without citations undermine credibility. Supervisors and examiners immediately recognize unsupported assertions and penalize them.

Always ask yourself: “Could someone challenge this claim? If yes, I need a citation or data.”

Mistake 2: Being Too Vague or Too Broad

“Technology is changing healthcare” is too vague. “Telemedicine platforms lack integration with Nigeria’s primary health care system in rural areas, preventing patients from accessing specialist consultations remotely despite having smartphone access” is appropriately specific.

Vagueness suggests you don’t fully understand your own research problem. Specificity demonstrates mastery.

Mistake 3: Introducing New Problems in Later Paragraphs

Your statement of problem should address ONE problem, viewed from multiple angles. Don’t introduce a second or third problem in paragraph 4 or 5. This confuses readers and suggests a lack of focus.

If you find yourself wanting to address multiple problems, choose the most important one and commit to it throughout.

Mistake 4: Spending More Time on Literature Review Than Problem Articulation

Your statement of problem should present the problem and gap in knowledge, not comprehensively review all related literature. That’s your literature review section’s job. Acknowledge existing research, highlight gaps, and move on.

A common proportion: 20% of your problem statement should discuss existing research/solutions; 80% should focus on your specific problem and why it matters.

Mistake 5: Failing to Explain Why the Problem Matters Beyond Academic Interest

The strongest problem statements connect academic problems to real-world consequences. Why should anyone outside academia care about this problem?

Weak: “No research has examined this specific phenomenon, so this study fills a literature gap.”

Strong: “This problem affects 3.2 million rural Nigerians, reduces agricultural productivity by 15%, and costs the economy ₦2.3 trillion annually. Understanding solutions would directly benefit both farmers and national economic growth.”

Connect to real impacts: economic costs, lives affected, opportunities lost, organizational challenges, social consequences. This transforms your problem from academic to urgent.

Mistake 6: Overpromising What Your Research Will Solve

Your statement of problem should NOT suggest you’ll solve the entire problem. Instead, it should indicate that you’ll contribute valuable insights or develop a specific framework.

Overpromising: “This research will solve the digital divide in rural Nigeria.”

Realistic: “This research will develop a practical framework for building trust in digital financial systems, contributing to understanding of how organizations can increase adoption in rural areas.”

Examiners respect realistic scope and punish inflated promises.

Your Statement of Problem Checklist

Before you consider your statement of problem complete, work through this checklist. Every item should receive a checkmark.

Does your first paragraph establish broader context?

Your opening should show why this topic area matters generally, before narrowing to your specific focus. Include trends, relevant developments, or global context.

Have you clearly identified the specific problem?

By paragraph 2, readers should understand precisely what problem you’re addressing. Not “financial inclusion is important,” but “rural women face these specific barriers to digital financial adoption.”

Is there clear evidence of a knowledge or practice gap?

Have you identified what research or solutions already exist, and what’s missing? This gap is what justifies your research.

Are consequences clearly articulated?

A reader should understand why this problem matters. What happens if it’s not solved? Who is affected? What opportunities are lost?

Does it lead naturally to your research objectives?

The problem statement should make your research questions and objectives feel inevitable—the logical next step after establishing the problem.

Are all major claims supported by evidence?

Go through each paragraph and verify that significant assertions have citations or data backing them. Avoid unsupported generalizations.

[ad_1] EVOLUTION OF THE ROLE OF MASS MEDIA IN INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA ABSTRACT This article provides […]

[ad_1]

EVOLUTION OF THE ROLE OF MASS MEDIA IN INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

This article provides an expository analysis of the evolution of the role of communication media in enhancing innovations and infrastructural development, especially in the Third World. It examines the evolution of the media from its traditional role of disseminating information to a veritable tool for the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the country.

The media is the reflection of our society and it represents what and how society works. The primary function of the media is to aid in making and keeping people informed. It also helps in entertaining, educating and making people aware of the current happenings around them, this is seen in major news headlines dominating the country today such as the outbreak of coronavirus and acts of insurgency in Nigeria.

However, the role of the media has evolved, thus the media has become the voice of our society (Nity& Gaurav, 2017). Information is necessary and also important to all forms of human activity. No matter the field; there is the need for exchange of information to ensure completion of task.

Where this exchange of information is slow, delayed or cut off totally, difficulties usually arises in achieving efficiency. Hence, information is regarded as vital resources that need to be properly developed, because it has an enormous effect on society.

Consequently, a society that has poor communication and information infrastructure perpetually falls behind others that are exposed to efficient information infrastructure (Moemeka 1985). Thus this study examines the evolution of the role of the media in inducing innovations and infrastructural development by using Harmony FmIdofian, Ilorin, Kwara State as a a case study.

The population of the study comprised of staff of the aforementioned media station as well as other media practitioners in the state, and also citizens of Iilorin town, Kwara State. A sample population of 100 respondents was used for the study. A questionnaire was distributed among the respondents in order to obtain reliable information for the study.

The Pearson Product analytical tool was used to analysed the data obtained. The result revealed that the media has evolves to become a veritable tool for national development in Nigeria. It also revealed that Illiteracy and language barriers are the major restraints limiting the media in inciting development in the country. The study recommended that some programs should be presented in local dialect to enable proper understanding by the audience in order to aid development.

CHAPTER ONE

GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Every nation’s development and growth is not all about the plans that are made but how the plans are revealed to members of the society as their level of participation determines the success of these plans (Okoyi 2007). Nigeria is no different as its plans must be discussed at all stages of formation and implementation to ensure that it is what the people need for their individual and societal development.

The success of any plan depends on the people’s understanding of the development projects (Ibid). Their understanding can only be guaranteed if the necessary information is passed through the medium that members of the society pay attention to.

The concept of using the media as a platform of sharing development related information with others is what is known today as development communication.

Anaeto (2010) sees development communication as an instrument in the development process. It is concerned with the use of communication tools and methodologies to spread knowledge and information to contribute to behaviour change and ultimately development.

Communication tools here refer to the mass media genres of print, broadcast, electronic and of recent the new media. This article looks at what development communication is like in Nigeria, its successes and failures as well as how the technology driven new media can be used as a communication tool for Nigeria’s development.

It is however necessary to delve into the principles of the development media theory propounded by Dennis McQuail in 1987.The principles of the development media given by McQuail (1987) in Anaeto (2010) are as follows:

The media must accept and carry out positive development tasks in line with established

national policy.

Freedom of the media should be open to economic priorities and development needs of

the society.

Media should give priority to news and information that link with other developing

countries which are close geographically, culturally or politically.

Journalists and other media workers have responsibilities as well as freedom in their

information gathering and dissemination tasks.

Since development communication has emerged as a veritable tool for national development, it therefore means that the modern role of the media has encompassed the functions of national development. Mass media are the channels of mass communication through which messages, ideas, thoughts, innovations, initiates and developmental process could be disseminated to a large, dispersed and heterogeneous audience.

Mass media channels such as radio, television, newspaper, satellite, internet books, magazines, billboards, films, recordings have always been part of developmental projects from the medieval time (McQuail 2010). Though the nature and size of these media have witnessed tremendous change and improvement from time to time due to technological advancement which automatically determine their capacity and viability at a particular given period.

In essence, these mass media undoubtedly, have greater roles to play in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Africa.

In todays world, the media as a medium of communication is used for more than just passing on information from one person to another. It is often used as a tool to enhance the participation of people in developmental activities. Such form of communication is known as development communication.

According to Everett Rogers (1994) “Development communication refers to the uses to which communication are put in order to further development.” It can therefore be said that communication is an approach which provides communities with information they can use in bettering their lives.

Development communication has two primary roles, i.e. Transforming role, as it steps social change in the direction of the hygiene taste of today’s generation in this competitive market and a socializing role by seeking to maintain some of the established values of the society. According to Payel (2015), Development communication thus can be said to have two primary roles, i.e.,

(a) transforming role, as it seeks social changes for a higher quality of life.

(b) Socializing role, by seeking to maintain some of the established values of the society.

This paper therefore sought to examine the evolution of the role of the mass media in innovation and infrastructural development in Nigeria.

1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Over the last few years, African media operations has improved significantly. New strategies, laws and regulations have been put in place which has aided the opening up of the airwaves and the uprising of government and private broadcasting services.

In modern parlance, there exist only a handful of African countries where state broadcasting monopolies prevail(Steve, 2013).This changing media communication mode has been seconded by new standards and measures for broadcasting policy, law and regulations which have been approved by African governments and which sets the required standard against which progress can be measured in the development of a liberteranian environment for the media.

Since the government is adopting policies to ensure effective media operations in Nigeria, enormous responsibility shoulders on the part of the media stations to not only provide useful information’s to Nigerians but to also touch lives by introducing innovations and even infrastructural developments in communities where such outlets reside for business.

Since information is an important as well as essential ttool of national development, given the deteriorating nature of Nigerian society, mass media operators become part of the major stakeholders in developing the country.

It is in light of the aforementioned role of the mass media towards national development that this work seeks to evaluate the impact of mass media in developing effective innovation and development in Nigeria with Harmony FM Idofian used as a case study.

1.3 RESEARCH QUESTIONS

Therefore, the following questions will be examined in this study:

What is the trend and pattern of media reporting in Nigeria?

What are the impacts of the mass media in inducing innovations and infrastructural development in Nigeria?

What are the challenges limiting the media in inciting development in Nigeria?

1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The broad objective of this study is to examine the impact of mass media in bringing innovation and infrastructural development to society.

However, this broad objective is subdivided into the following specific objectives:

To analyze the trend and pattern of media reporting in Nigeria.

To examine the impact of mass media in inducing innovations and infrastructural development in the

To identify the challenges limiting the role of mass media in inciting development in Nigeria.

1.4 JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY

Media for most of us are entangled with almost every aspect of life and work. Understanding media will not only help us to appreciate the role of media in our day-to-day life but also helps us to be a more informed citizen, thus creating a platform for expanding societal development.

Mass media has a political and a persuasive power over us. Radio, TV, the ‘press’ etc. can manipulate whole societies. Political propaganda, advertising and other means of media power are longstanding causes of debate and concern. Media has a great effect on our social behavior which in turn influences the role we play towards societal development or otherwise.

As a result, the media can impact the society negatively as seen in the upspring of terrorist activities constantly aired in media platforms thus bringing to limelight acts of insurgency, which in turns illicits the urge for intending terrorist.

However the media also plays a positive role as seen in the transfer of much needed information on the risk factors and prevention measures of the deathly coronavirus infection presently plaguing the world. This study aims to elucidate the importance of media in impacting the society positively.

1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study focuses exclusively on the impact of mass media in inducing innovations and infrastructural development in Nigera, by using Harmony Idofian FM, Kwara State as a case study. The study appraises the potential of the media in creating a conducive and inspiring atmosphere for general societal development.

The study would also make use of assumptions and postulations of various authors in other parts of the world relating to the subject matter under discussion.

1.6 ASSUMPTION AND LIMITATION OF STUDY

This study is based on the assumption that the selected respondents represent the Population. It is also assumed that the information given by respondents will provide will be truthful, accurate and without bias. The major limitations of the study include: Lack of funds; the research was carried out within the limit of available funds.

As a self sponsored research, it was not possible to generate enough funds to service the project. Hence, the budget project was drawn based on available funds. This has placed significant limitations on the scope of the study.

The research has also been limited by time frame. The available time allotted to the study was too short to explore every avenue connected to the research. The best way to go around the work was to use selected sampling strategy to generalize the survey.

The study also experienced sampling limitation. This study has used a narrow approach to infer a general assumption by exploring specific case study to generalize the context.

In other words, the use of media in its broad sense has been examined and evaluated within the limited parameter of the a selected case study. Using a single case study design has provided a rather narrow perspective of the media.

1.7 OPERATIONAL DEFINITION OF TERMS

Development: The gradual growth of something so that it becomes more advanced or stronger.

Evolution: The gradual development of plants, animals, etc, over many years from simple to complicate forms.

Innovation: The introduction of new things, ideas or ways of doing something.

Infrastructure: The basic systems and services that are necessary for a country or an organization, for example building, transport, power sub.

Mass Media: According to Afamuefuna, it is a technical concept which refers to the devices employed by anyone involved in a mass mediated communication situation for moving messages across distance and time.

Conceptually, the mass media are technological agencies and corporate organization, engaged in the creation, selection, processing and distribution of message that are produced at speeds and in quantities possible only with mass-production methods.

Mass media, therefore are the broadcast common currencies of public interaction in a society. Thus, the mass media are the organized means of reaching large number of diverse kinds of people quickly and efficiently (Pate 2003).

PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND FATTY ACID COMPOSITION OF AFRICAN STAR APPLE SEED OIL

ABSTRACT

Oil extracted from African star apple by a continuous extraction process using a soxhlet apparatus was subjected to physicochemical and fatty acid profile analysis. Results obtained show that the acid value, iodine value, peroxide value, saponification value, free fatty acid, refractive index, melting point, smoke point, flash point, fire point, and specific gravity are 30.67mg/g, 20.67mg/g, 5.00mg/g, 48.00mg/g, 0.87%, 0.96, 1.47, 19.00OC, 1.03, 122.00OC, 156.00OC, and 180.00OC respectively.

All these values confirm that African star apple oil is suitable for human consumption as well as for industrial uses which compared favorably with the value obtained in palm oil, groundnut oil as well as cottonseed oil (Adewusi, 1997)… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

INTRODUCTION

The genus Chrysophyllum is a family of trees and shrubs well marked by latex, and alternate, simple, usually exstipulate leaves; stipules when present fall easily. The genus Chrysophyllum is derived from Greek, meaning “golden-leaf” because of the color of the hairs of some species. In a few others, however, the color of the hair is silvery white. The genus Chrysophyllum, Linn. is represented in most parts of Africa by thirteen species, eight of which (including Chrysophyllum albidum) occur in Nigeria.

However, while Keay et al., (1964) and Keay (1989) reported only seven species for Nigeria, Hutchinson and Dalziel (1963) reported eight species including C. Prunifolium. All the Nigerian species of Chrysophyllum are tall or medium-sized trees except C. welwitschia which is a woody climbing shrub. On the other hand, Hawthorne (1995) reported only six species for Nigeria (Bada, 1997).

The mature tree of Chrysophyllum albidum G. Don has been variously described by several authors ( Aubreville, 1963; Hutchinson and Dalziel, 1963; Keay et al., 1964, Keay, 1989; Okafor, 1981)… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Statement of Problem

An investigation on the antioxidant and food value of Chrysophyllum albidum showed the plant contains some phenol, flavonoid, anthocyanin, and proanthocyanidin and also a high antioxidant value [9]. Generally, the roots, barks, and leaves of Chrysophyllum albidum are widely used as an application to sprains, bruises, and wounds in southern Nigeria [10]. The seeds and roots extracts of Chrysophyllum albidum are used to arrest bleeding from fresh wounds and to inhibit microbial growth of known wound contaminants and also enhance the wound healing process [11].

The oil of Chrysophyllum albidum has been extracted from the corresponding seeds in a soxhlet extractor with hexane (boiling point range: 55∘C-65∘C) and analyzed for moisture content, pH, specific gravity, saponification value, refractive index, peroxide value, acid number, free fatty acid, and iodine value by [12]… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Research Objectives

To obtain the methanol, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, and aqueous extracts of leaf of African star apple.

To determine qualitatively and quantitatively secondary metabolites present in the methanol, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, and aqueous extracts of leaf of African star apples… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

LITERATURE REVIEW

Introduction

The genus Chrysophyllum is an evergreen tropical tree. Chrysophyllum albidum is a tall straight tree from 30 m to 60 m under favorable site conditions. The bole is sometimes long and straight but often branched, deeply fluted occasionally with small buttresses (about 30 cm high) at the base. The crown is usually dense (Katende et al., 1995; Irvine, 1961; Bada, 1997).

The crown is usually dense (Katende et al., 1995; Irvine, 1961; Bada, 1997). The bark is thin, pale grey-brown, or pale brownish-green, while the pale brown slash exudes copious white gummy latex, a characteristic of the Sapotaceae family. It has a network of zigzag fissures; twigs grooved (Irvine 1961; Katende et al., 1995; Bada, 1997). It is a timber species.

The wood is a brownish-white, soft, coarse and open grain; very perishable in contact with the ground. It is easy to saw and plane, nails well, and takes a fine polish. (Katende et al.,1995; Opeke, 1982). The branches and the leaves (crown) form a dense canopy, so it can serve as a shade tree or used as a material for windbreaks or shelterbelts (Katende et al., 1995)… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Nutritive Value of Chrysophyllum Albidum Fruit

The fruit is very rich in ascorbic acid (vitamin C). It has the highest content of ascorbic acid with 1000 — 3330 mg of ascorbic acid per 100 g of edible fruit or about 100 times that of oranges and 10 times in guava or cashew. It is also an excellent source of vitamins B and D as well as iron (Okafor and Fernandes, 1987; Bada,1997; Umelo, 1997).

Besides, the fruit contains 90% anacardic acid. The seeds inside the fruit contain oil in the endosperm (Bada, 1997). It has been reported that fruit pulp contains 21.8mg/100g ascorbic acid, while the skin contains 75mg/100g. Again, proximate analysis of the fruit pulp revealed protein content of (8.8%), lipid (15.1%), ash (3.4%), carbohydrate (68.7%) and crude fiber (4.0%), with only minor differences between pulp and skin.

With the exception of calcium (100 v 250 mg/100g) and iron (10 v 200 mg/100g) in pulp and skin respectively, the mineral content of these components of the fruit was also very similar. The levels of toxic substances in both the mesocarp and the pericarp were low, although the juice was highly acidic… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Relationship with the Environment

Chrysophyllum albidum is primarily a forest tree species. Its natural occurrence has, however, been reported in diverse ecozones from the high rainfall (>2000 mm) area of Urhonighe Forest Reserve, through Ilaro Forest Reserve (<1500 mm) in Nigeria to parts of the Niger Republic with less than 1000 mm annual rainfall (Bada, 1997).

Macoboy, (1989) has claimed that the species requires a hot climate and all-year-round water supplies. Field observations, however, show that factors other than those of the climate may be crucial to the occurrence and distribution of the species (Bada, 1997). PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES

For instance, the species is yet to be encountered in the forest of Cross River and Akwa-Ibom States, which enjoy very high rainfall (often >2500 mm) and abundant sunshine being nearer the Equator than the dry lowland rainforests. The fact that the species is reported in Niger Republic shows that edaphic and some other factors may play a significant role in its natural distribution (Bada, 1997)… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

RESEARCH MATERIAL AND METHOD

Fruit Collection and Seeds Preparation: Fresh ripped fruits of African Star Apple were bought from some local market sellers at the University of Cape Coast Science market which is located in the Southern part of Nigeria. This is a seasonal fruit that is available during the dry seasons. The seeds were first air-dried in the sun at an average temperature of 29∘C for 7 days and then mechanically… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Oil Extraction and Concentration Procedure: The dried seeds were milled using a laboratory rotary mill (IKA M20 Universal Mill). An amount of the milled seed was used for the Soxhlet extraction [26]. A round bottom flask containing analytical grade N-Hexane (99%) was fitted with a reflux condenser to the top. This was placed in a heating mantle at 65∘C and the liquid condensate dripped into the thimble which contained the milled sample… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Infrared (FTIR) Analysis Coupled with Fourier Transform: The use of the Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometer to determine the functional groups has been reported by various researchers [28, 29]. It was performed to determine the various functional groups of the chemical components usingtheFourierTransformSpectroscopyModelI-R Prestige 21 Shimadzu… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

The oil extracted from the African Star Apple seeds (Chrysophyllum albidum) with hexane using the soxhlet apparatus was physically and chemically analyzed and gave the following results as presented in Table 1… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Specific Gravity: It has a specific gravity of 0.92 at 30∘C which is different from that of Adebayor, Orhevba [27] who had 0.89 at 25∘C, 0.8269 at 25∘C for [31]. The saponification value of oil serves as an important parameter in determining the suitability of the oil for soap making [34].

CONCLUSION

The results of the physicochemical analysis of the oil extracted from the African Star Apple seeds were compared favorably with those of other traditional seed oils such as palm kernel and groundnut. The oil yield of 11.6% was low as compared to oil from palm kernel oil (45.6%) and groundnut oil (35.76%) [41].

The physicochemical properties of the African Star Apple seed oil indicated that it is nondrying (saponification value of 200mg/KOH/g) and can be used as a feedstock for the production of soaps, lubricating oils, and lighting candles. However, it may not be suitable for the production of surface coatings, varnishes, and oil paints due to its nondrying attribute… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Your Sports Research Paper Stand Out With 70 Exciting Topics

Finding the right topic for preparing a research paper may seem like a wild goose chase. Not many students are aware of it, but even deciding on a topic requires them to follow a simple process. Going by that systematic approach will allow you to churn out a stellar topic for your research paper.

Now, for instance, you are instructed by your professor to pick a topic from the area of sports. At this point, the obvious question that many of you may pose is, “what if I’m not a sports enthusiast?” Well, we have also got that covered in this post, as we have curated a list of research paper topics on sports to inspire you.

A systematic approach to choosing a topic

Brainstorm relevant ideas

While pondering over the ideas you need to ensure your focus on the five ‘w’.

Why should you choose the topic?

What intrigues you about it?

What’s your view on the issues connected to the topic?

Who is providing the information on this topic?

Who is affected by the topic?

What are the relevant questions connected to the topic?

Can the topic be debated?

Are there a number of issues and perspectives to consider?

Where is your topic important?

At the international, national or local level?

Is there a specific area affected by the issues discussed in the topic?

When is/was your topic significant? Is it a current situation or a historical phenomenon? Would you want to compare your topic by time periods?

Background information matters

When you are trying to come up with an impactful topic, you have to emphasize on the background details of your preferred areas. The following are some pertinent ways to gather relevant information.

Check the current magazine, journal or newspaper articles on your topic. Ask the librarian of your university if they can assist you with browsing articles on your specific topic of interest. Utilize the resources available on the internet. You will find many scholarly articles and online databases with authentic resources that you can refer to.

Make it manageable

Carrying out research on a topic can quite difficult if it is too narrow or too broad. One way you can narrow down a broad topic is to define a limit for the topic. Some common ways to limit a topic are as follows.

By geographical area By culture By time frame By population group By discipline

Prepare a List of Useful Keywords

Keep track of the words used in describing your topic.

Look for words that best describe your topic Note down the words and use them later when searching the databases and catalogs. Find broader and narrower terms, key concepts, synonyms to widen your search capabilities.

So taking into account these pointers while choosing your topic will ensure that you do complete justice to it.

Preparing a research paper on a specific topic in the domain of sports can be as easy or difficult depending on the topics you choose. So, to save yourself from the whole process of churning out a great topic, you can take inspiration from the topics listed below.

Do You Have New or Fresh Topic? Send Us Your Topic

The implementation of AR/VR in various sports and their impact. How has the broadcasting of sporting events evolved with the age of the Internet? Elaborate with adequate evidence. Sports have the capacity to unite the countries that are hostile to each other.

Justify your answer with appropriate evidence. Do activities like surfing, skateboarding, or dirt biking fall under the mainstream area of sports? Justify your stance with valid arguments. Should children be encouraged to opt for indoor or outdoor sport? Pick a stance and elucidate.

Should educational institutions invest more in providing scholarships to emerging athletes? Elucidate with proper evidence. Is it ethical to engage animals in sporting events (Polo, bullfighting)? Provide your insights. Cricket is known as “the gentleman’s game”. But, considering the amount of sledding that goes on between players, is the adage still relevant?

Gender stereotypes are still quite evident in the domain of sports. Elaborate with proper arguments. Do sports personalities today care more about building a brand? Elaborate your answer with proper evidence. Are sports organizations and authorities propelled by Political agenda? Should there be more emphasis on the inclusion of homosexual sportspeople within the mainstream form of sports? Indulging in some form of sport makes children learn the value of teamwork.

Match-fixing has been a persistent issue in the world of cricket for a long time. Should there be more stringent measures to deal with this issue? Present your ideas with proper research. How do sports contribute to community building? Elaborate your answer with proper examples. Does playing a sport affect human cognitive skills and can it prevent neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s? Present some relevant examples through proper research.

Should athletes use sport as a medium to promote their political afflictions? Provide your ideas with sufficient examples. Does playing a sport makes students under perform in college? Conduct proper research and present your views based on it. Specially-abled athletes deserve better infrastructure and facilities from the government. Present a solid argument. Any major sporting events like the Olympics have a devastating impact on the countries that host them.

Should bowling be included in the Olympics? Justify your answer with proper arguments. Should sports be treated as a form of entertainment? Or are there social implications attached to it? How do performance-enhancing drugs affect a sportsperson? Elucidate with proper evidence. Only academically sound people indulge in a sport like Chess. Elaborate on your answer with proper evidence.

How technology has enhanced the field of sports in the last five years. Present your arguments based on the developments in two of the most popular sports in the world. Has sports journalism evolved for the better? Pick your stance and elaborate your argument.

ABSTRACT

Production skills are a basic element in maintaining the production capacity of an organization is an important function in any production organization. The reprocessing of any organization is made up of both its human and material assets, which are the source of generating revenue and growth. A great deal of production skills is required to harness both the human, machine, materials, money, and assets of a production firm, and stay on top of the business, being a competitive market… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Production skills

Industries and business organization be it private or public, have one thing in common, the human workforce, this could confidently be said, that organization, will not exist without its human resources, since a business organization cannot even start without a workforce, and effective and efficient skills, will gear the ability of the organization to stand out among its competitors.

Production control is defined by Burbidge (1992). In his book, the principles of production control, “Is the function of management which plans, directs and controls the material supply and processing activities of an enterprise, so that the specified products are produced. By specific methods to meet an approved sales program. These activities being carried out in such a manner that the labor, plant, and capital available are used to the best advantage.

Poter (2006). In his book, effective entrepreneurship, he is of the view that companies can choose between three general strategies to build competitive advantage a differentiation strategy, a low-cost strategy and third approach, the frequency used by entrepreneurs in focus, or niche strategy. A firm that uses a differentiation strategy competes on the basis of its ability to do things differently than its major competitors do.

Beal, Reginald (2000). In his journal competing for environmental scanning competitive strategy and organizational performance in small manufacturing firms is of the view that pursuit of an effective entrepreneurial strategy is mainly through advantages, has been mapped through the collection and analysis of information from existing and potential customers.

Boxalla (1996) Boxall 1996 defines strategy as a firm’s framework of critical ends and means. This definition helps to make the point clear, that means do not flow unproblematically from ends. Rather the historically developed means to shape what ends are conceivable and possible… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

In the past years, various issues to the effective management of industries and business organizations to gain a competitive advantage over others have been noticed and highlighted as follows:

Unskilled Labour:

Unskilled labor has been the major problem facing industries and business organization, this is as a result of personnel managers, not recruiting and selecting employees, base on merit, skill, and expertise, but rather on selection based on man know man, a connection of whom you know to get to where you want. Hence, the effect is having the wrong people at the right place and thereby affecting the quality of service or product to be delivered to the market.

In Nigeria today, you will be surprised, seeing somebody who read a different course entirely been employed in a different field. i.e. a mechanical engineer working in the banking sector, such the expected performance will be upturned and unsatisfactorily.

Technology:

The inability of industries and business organizations to use modern ways to get things done effectively, and efficiently is another major problem. A supplier may be expected to produce technical, particularly during the early stages of design and manufacturing… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Research Objective

The objective of the study is to analyze the impact of production skills in the management of industries/business organizations to portray how far the application of production skills in the management has helped the discipline level.

In this case, therefore, it is important to note that management is a very complex situation because human beings as individuals interact with one another in groups and in a large organization. It is also very important to note that every human behavior has a cause, there is a reason for a person behaving as he does… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

LITERATURE REVIEW

Zilbovicius (1999) indicates that the petroleum industry originated the main production system (Mass, Lean, semi-autonomous groups, enriched groups), and influenced most sectors. Currently, the Brazilian petroleum industry has noticed an evolution of physical production and a number of formal workers (IBGE, 2011), which indicates an opportunity for sharing employees’ knowledge.

‘Blue-collar’ is a profession category related to laborers (Harding and Percival, 2008). It is a workplace designation that defines an employee who performs manual or technical labor, such as in a factory, in contrast to a white-collar worker, who does non-manual work.

Symbolic workers have, in general, some autonomy over their work, making decisions on how to appropriately perform it. Blue collars, in turn, do not have this formal autonomy; their actions and resources are usually predefined. Under such restrictions, they perform activities, internalizing knowledge from procedures, and developing tacit knowledge. Operations performance, and, ultimately, the firm’s performance depends on that knowledge, but there is sparse literature on blue-collar workers, and how they develop and incorporate knowledge in their actions (Muniz Jr.; Nakano; Batista Jr., 2011)… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

K-PMM – THE KNOWLEDGE-BASED INTEGRATED PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT MODEL

Muniz Jr., Batista Jr., and Loureiro (2010) indicate that traditional production management models have two dimensions, a human or social dimension represented by the work organization called the W-dimension and, a technical dimension represented by the production organization which is the P dimension.

The P and W-dimensions essentially capture the explicit structure and the behavior of the production management system. Such a system has also a tacit structure that is progressively converted into explicit, as it is better understood. Tacit knowledge exists, it is important, and it needs to be formally included in a model of the production management system, especially to model shop floor environment relationships… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Workers Knowledge And Knowledge Management

Muniz Jr., Nakano and Batista Jr. (2011) indicate that the KM literature can be roughly divided into two perspectives: (a) knowledge as amenable of being stored, combined, and disseminated, and (b) while the other stresses the role of social relations and individual and collective action. To the latter, knowledge is embedded in relationships and cannot be separated from action.

White collars workers have, in general, some autonomy over their work, making decisions on how to perform it. Blue collars in turn do not have that formal autonomy; their activities and resources are usually predefined.

Under such restrictions, they perform activities, internalize knowledge from procedures, and develop tacit knowledge. A standard operation procedure contains information, but the enclosed knowledge in it has no value until it is actually put into practice, and it is enacted by workers. Operations performance and, ultimately, the firm’s performance depends on that knowledge, but the knowledge management basis to blue-collar workers is still a research issue, i.e. how they develop and incorporate knowledge in their actions.

While white collars may have some action over their work environment and thus act to foster knowledge creation and sharing, blue collars do have much less formal autonomy. Their work context is defined by human management practices and operation management techniques on the shop floor. Thus, they ultimately define knowledge creation and sharing.

Eastern operations management techniques were the first to allow some autonomy and discretion to blue collars, demanding them to participate, analyze, and contribute to problem-solving. For instance, housekeeping (5S) and participative problem solving (Kaizen) groups are based on workers’ initiative and participation, and even the use of standard operating procedures in such a context ends up facilitating internalization (Nonaka and Takeuchi, 1995)… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Introduction

This chapter discussed the method the researcher followed in carrying out the study. It started by discussing the research design, then the population, sample size and sampling technique, sources and method of data collection, variable measurement, validity and reliability, data collection method, method of data analysis, and lastly, justification of the method used.

Research Design

The study adopts a survey research design which is cross-sectional in nature. Primary data were collected from the population of the study using a survey questionnaire. This type of research design is adopted because the information about the independent variables and dependent variable represents what is going on at only one point in time. Data were collected from the population of the study using a survey questionnaire and analyzed to report the finding at a point in time… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Population of the Study

The population of the study consists of 201 PPMCs managers operating their businesses within Kaduna state as at 2015 and are registered with PPMC.

DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS

Introduction

This chapter analyses the data collected from managers of PPMCs in Kaduna state. In order to achieve the main objective of this research which is to investigate the effect of production skill on the performance of PPMCs, production skills, production model, and production orientation were used as independent variables against PPMCs performance. The hypotheses will be tested and the findings will be explained.

Data Presentation

A total of 174 copies of questionnaires was distributed and 162 (93%) were retrieved. Data screening was carried out on 162 retrieved questionnaires, out of which 144 (83%) were found to be useful because they have been correctly filled. Thus, the analysis was based on 144 filled and returned questionnaires which represent 83% of the total questionnaires distributed, a response rate considered sufficient for statistical reliability and generalization (Tabachnick & Fidell, cited in Aminu, 2014).

This section presents the descriptive statistics of the demographic model, the dependent and independent variables of this study. The demographic model includes; gender, nature of the business, number of years in business, number of employees, and educational qualifications of the respondents. The variables are production skills, production model and production orientation, and PPMCs performance. The rule for this analysis is that any mean responses of 1-2.49, 2.50-3.49, and 3.50-5.00 are rated below average, average, and above-average respectively, while the analysis of the demographic model is based on percentage.

Table 4.2 shows the gender of the respondents. The totals of 124 of the respondents representing 86.1% are male while only 20 representing 13.9% are female. This shows that the male gender is the dominant gender among entrepreneurs in Kaduna State. The low participation on the part of the women may be attributed to culture, values, and norms which may hinder women from fully participating in business activities… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Conclusion

The findings revealed that production skills have a significant positive effect on the performance of PPMCs. Therefore, this study concluded that in order to achieve business performance, entrepreneurs need to acquire the planning, organizing, leading, and controlling skills.

The production model also has a significant positive effect on the performance of PPMCs in Kaduna state. This implies that the more an entrepreneur possesses a production model in the areas of locus of control, self-efficacy and risk-taking; the higher the performance of PPMCs. Therefore, this study concluded that the production model generally lead to higher performance of PPMCs in Kaduna state… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

10 reasons why we study social studies

This pdf resource on 10 reasons why we study social studies serves as both a comprehensive guide and a scholarly reference, incorporating traditional educational values while addressing contemporary educational needs in our increasingly interconnected global society

We can generally agree that the world needs to be a safer place where all people can enjoy basic dignity and human rights. This is the case even when we can’t always agree on what we should do to make this happen. Social scientists working in interdisciplinary teams have made their mark in the area of human welfare and development.

They are concerned with the social and economic advancement of humanity at large. They work with government institutions, UN organizations, social services, funding agencies, and the media.

They are influencing the work of strategists, planners, teachers and programme officers in developing and growing economies, like India, to influence development so that it impacts on the lives of the poorest members of society.

For example, social scientists from the Delhi School of Economics are cooperating with colleagues at SOAS, University of London to explore the impact of legislation in India to guarantee minimum wages for rural unskilled manual laborer’s on the loves of women.

They found the new law provided opportunities for some women to become wage earners where none had existed before, reducing the risk of hunger and the chances of avoiding hazardous work. But they also identified barriers to women benefitting from the changes, including harassment at the worksite.

Those working in development studies are then able to support women’s ability to benefit by looking for creative solutions to such problems.

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The influence of audiovisual materials in promoting student’s academic achievement and teaching and learning in mathematics cannot be overemphasized. The teaching of geometry in Nigerian junior secondary schools needs to be properly handled.

The materials used by teachers to teach and drive home their subject points at the primary and secondary school levels of our education system is incontrovertibly a paramount important issue in practical classroom interaction and successful transfer of knowledge from the teacher to the students. Audiovisual are materials which assist teachers to make their lessons explicit to students.

They are also used to transmit information, ideas, and notes to learners (Ijaduola, 2007). Audiovisual materials include both visuals and audiovisuals such as pictures, flashcards, posters, charts, tape recorders, radio, video, television, computers among others. These materials serve as a supplement to the normal processes of instruction.

Geometry is a subject in mathematics that focuses on the study of shapes, sizes, relative configurations, and spatial properties. Derived from the Greek word meaning “earth measurement,” geometry is one of the oldest sciences.

It was first formally organized by the Greek mathematician Euclid around 300 BC when he arranged 465 geometric propositions into 13 books, titled ‘Elements’. This, however, was not the first-time geometry had been utilized. As a matter of fact, there exists evidence to believe that geometry dates all the way back to 3,000 BC in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Statement of the Problem

Previous studies reviewed show that the failure rate in mathematics at junior certificate examinations is high. This could be attributed to a number of factors; one of such factor is the lack or total absence of audiovisual materials. In teaching and learning, audiovisual materials play a key role in concretizing learning.

Audiovisual materials make learning meaningful and help to improve students’ academic achievement. However, these advantages of audiovisual materials have not reflected in the education system because of the dearth of these audio-visual materials in our schools. Hence, the need for alternative audio-visual materials called improvisation… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Research Objectives

The main aim of this study is to investigate the influence of audiovisual materials in the teaching and learning of geometry in junior secondary schools in Lagos State. Specifically, the study sought the following;

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Introduction

This chapter reviewed materials and other works related to the use of audiovisual aids and they were presented in the chapter under the following sub-headings:-

Theoretical framework

General audio and visuals

The concept of audio-visual aids

Types of audio-visual instructional aids

The importance of audio-visual aids in teaching-learning

Academic achievement

Concept of Comprehension

Concept of Demonstration

Concept of Cooperation

Empirical studies.

Theoretical framework

Almost every educational reformer has expressed deep concern over the excessive use of words that carry the shadow of meaning but not the substance. Several educationists have struggled to make education realistic. One of such educationist was Dale, E. (1969) who became the chief exponent of audio-visual aids in teaching. He was the originator of the “cone of experience”.

The diagram presented in his book “audiovisual method in teaching.”All the learning experiences can be utilized for classroom teaching. Edger Dale presented all the learning experiences in his pictorial device “pinnacle form” which he called the “cone of experience” if we group the pinnacle from its base; we find that every aid has been arranged in the order of increasing abstractness or decreasing directness.

It may be stated that the “cone” classifies the audio-visual aids according to their effectiveness in communication which means the aids at the base of the cone as “most effective” and relative effect gradually decreases in the cone. Al the pinnacle of the cone, the direct, purposeful, and verbal experiences is represented. The experiences include in the cone were as follows:-

The direct, purposeful experience that is seen, handled, tasted, felt, touched, and smelt, the experience that is grained through the senses. These experiences are not only direct but are also purposeful. Purposeful means that the experiences are active with a purpose. “An ounce of experience is better than a tone of theory, simply because it is only an experience that any theory has vital and verifiable significance”… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

General Audio and visuals

Audio and visuals are all the objects, things, people and places use to promote the teaching and learning process. The organized combination and utilization of materials facilities equipment and people ease the presentation content for the realization of stated objectives, Ema and Ajayi (2004) state that audio and visuals are all the tools, which can be used by the teacher to provide help and encouragement to learners` learning activities.

In addition, Jocob (1999) stated that audio and visuals are anything and anybody that can be used by the teacher and learners before, during, and after the lesson to facilitate the achievement of objectives. In other words, audio and visuals are devices that facilitate the transmission, understanding, and appreciation of concepts, skills, values, and attitudes… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Categories of instruction materials and resources

Audio and visuals are variedly categorized. For instance, Dubey, and Barth, (1980) grouped them into two, namely:

Reading materials

Non-reading materials

Michaelis (1980) classified then into

Reading material

Audio-visual materials

Community resources

Another categorization provided by Dubey and Barth (1980) has:

Reading materials

Audio-visual material

Community resources

Human Resources… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Concept of Audio-visual aids

Many definitions of audio-visual aids have been made. Most such definitions were made in terms of equipment and materials; and their use in the teaching and learning process. Ofoegbu, (2009) in his illustrations defines audio-visual aids as teaching aids which are of two kinds-materials and verbal. The materials he called the hardware and software used in teaching and these include objects, models, photographs, painting, drawing, diagrams, films among others.

Another definition was made by Talabi, (2004), who sees audio-visual materials as a combination of audio-visual materials which are used in the instructional or learning process to facilitate teaching and learning. According to Abolade, (2004) audio-visual aids are supplementary devices by which teachers, through the utilization of more than one sensory channel is able to clarify, establish, and correlate concepts, interpretations and appreciation.

In his definitions, Nwanna-Nzewunwa, (2003) views audio-visual materials as any device which can be used to make the learning experience more concrete, more realistic, and more dynamic.

Generally, audio-visual materials are those materials which are used by a teacher or an instructor to illustrate the information that is contained in a book in such a way that it will be clearly understood by the students… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Empirical Studies

This research work has reviewed some empirical related studies conducted by different researchers and at different times. One such work was that of Chindo, Abdulrasaq, and Ayinla, (2010) who conducted research on the effect of audio-visual audio and visuals on junior secondary schools students’ performance in Ilorin West local government area of Lagos state.

That research work was similar to this research which was based on the effect of the use of audio-visual aids on student’s academic achievement in Mathematics in junior secondary schools in – oshodi government area, Lagos state.

In research design, Chindo used a pretest. Post-test quasi-experimental design was quite similar to the research design for this work. Chindo also employed a sampled population of junior secondary schools (students who were randomly selected for the research work). It is quite similar to the sampled population put in use for this research… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Introduction

This chapter presents the methodological procedure employed in carrying out this study.

Research Design

The study investigated the effect of audio and visuals on the application of learning mathematics in senior secondary schools in Isolo Local Government Area, Lagos State. Therefore the appropriate design for the study is a combination of quasi-experimental and survey design.

Population

The population the researcher identified for the study comprises the mathematics teachers and students at the Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) Lagos State.

Sampling Procedure

A stratified random sampling technique was employed. A stratified sampling technique was employed in selecting two schools each in Bariga and Yaba Local Government. Among the schools selected, one is all-boys secondary school; one is all-girls secondary school while two are co-educational secondary schools making four schools… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

RESEARCH FINDING AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents an analysis of the data collected for the study. Four schools were involved in the study, which includes C.M.S.

Grammar School, Bariga, Federal Science and Technology College, Yaba, Stockbridge Secondary School, Bariga, and Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Yaba. All the schools are in Lagos State. Out of the above schools, eighty students (80) and twenty (20) teachers were randomly selected to constitute the study’s sample.

Two relatives’ kinds of questionnaires were prepared (teachers’ and students’ questionnaires) and administered to the teachers and students respectively. The information was obtained on the demographic features of the respondents are presented in percentage tables and subsequently interpreted respectively.

The responses of the respondents to the questions on the questionnaire copies administered to them in conjunction with both chi-square (x2) and t-test statistical tools were used in testing the hypotheses posited for the study.

Each result as gotten from the respective tests of the critical value at 0.05 level of significance. Besides, in the analysis of teachers’ responses, strongly agree and agree were grouped as agree (A) while, strongly disagree and disagree were grouped as disagree (c).

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter discusses the finding of this study in relation to the hypotheses formulated and tested. The conclusions are drawn based on the results.

Summary

The discussions of the findings are based on the variables which formed the basis of the hypotheses tested in chapter four.

The purpose of the study includes:

To examine the influence of the use of audio and visuals in the teaching of Mathematics in secondary schools… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

The finding after testing hypothesis one indicates that the use of audio and visuals will significantly influence Mathematics teaching in secondary schools. This result concurs with Ajelabi (2000) where he says that audio and visuals lend support and authenticity to whatever the teacher says.

This enables the learner to confirm or refute the teacher’s assertion. Sharing the above view is Kay (1981) who says that audio and visuals help the teacher to teach more effectively… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Conclusion

As a result of evidence gathered from the analysis of data, interpretation of result and discussion of findings of this study, the following conclusions are reached;

The use of appropriate audio and visuals helps teachers to make their lesson clarifying…(Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)

Recommendations

In line with the findings of this study, the researcher recommends the following:

Schools should provide enough audio and visuals to enable teachers to clarify their lessons. Adequate infrastructure facilities and conclusive atmosphere are Sine Qua Non for effective learning and retention of what is learned… (Scroll down for the link to get the Complete Chapter One to Five Project Material)
