AN APPRAISAL OF ATTITUDE OF PARENTS TOWARDS ACCOUNTING EDUCATION AS A COURSE IN HIGHER INSTITUTION

INTRODUCTION

To their credit, a slew of social-psychologists have made an effort to describe and explain attitudes (Fazio & Olson, 2003; Katçbaş, 2010). An object’s attitude might either be good or negative (Zanna & Rempel, 1988).

However, despite the widespread belief that attitudes must be studied holistically as a collection of one’s thoughts and feelings as well as one’s experiences in the past, recent research has shown that attitudes can exist independently of any one of these factors, leading some researchers to refer to them as “mental assessments” instead of “attitudes” per se (Fazio & Olson, 2003; Zanna, 1990).

There are several ways in which an individual’s attitude might connect him or her to the rest of society. Despite their prominence in this framework, parents also play a significant role in the development of a child’s mindset.

For this reason, numerous studies have been conducted to examine parental attitudes (Dietrich & Salmela-Aro, 2013; zdemir et al, 2013; Ishak; Oncu & Unluer (2012); Oncu & Unluer (2012); Sawalha, (2012); Serinkan (2012), Hoeve; Bolkan et al., 2010; Huver et al., 2010; Nekkebnoeck et al., 2010; Abar et al., 2009; Brand et al., 2009; Paczkowski and Baker, 2008; Yang & Shin, 2006; Orhon et al., 2006).

In light of these research, it is obvious that parental attitudes influence a wide range of concerns, including education, motivation, discipline, nutrition, self-control, daily living, and academic achievement. In order to explain the impact of parental views on a child’s behavior, a variety of models have been proposed. Permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative parenting styles were identified by Baumrind (1973; 1978).

Permissive parents are friendly and approachable, but they fall short when it comes to disciplining and restricting their children’s behavior. When it comes to parenting styles, authoritarian parents tend to exhibit less care for their children and place more importance on their obedience.

Parenting with authority is showing children love but also providing them with clear and understandable instructions on how to develop a variety of desirable character traits and values (Baumrind, 1973). When it comes to parental views, studies on schooling and academic success are the most fascinating.

In a study by Yang & Shin (2008), the impact of parental views on children’s lives, development, and schooling was examined. According to them, the success of children’s education is greatly influenced by the attitudes of their parents, who place a high value on their children’s education.

In spite of this, there have been numerous studies on the impact of parental attitudes on education (Dietrich & Salmela-Aro, 2013; Ishak et al., 2012; Oncu & Unluer, 2012; Abar et al., 2009). As a result of parental views, various research have been undertaken in the subject of physical education, which is seen as an important aspect of education (ncü & Güven 2011).

Parents’ opinions about physical education activities played a significant role in these studies, as showed. Studying parents’ attitudes about physical education courses, Stewert & Gren (1987) found that parents have a favourable view of physical education courses in terms of athletic skills, emotional and cognitive development, and sociability..

Physical education programs in schools were examined by Sheehy (2006), who found that some parents had a negative view of physical education. Studies show that adolescents’ attitudes about physical education classes are influenced by their parents’ attitudes, although many moms are unaware of their children’s physical education programs.

ncü & Güven (2011) did a study to establish a scale for measuring parental attitudes toward physical education and sports activities in light of Turkish studies in this area. Researchers have long been interested in gauging students’ attitudes toward physical education classes (Unlu, 2012).

Many studies have been done on this topic (Ünlu, 2012; Ünlü et al., 2011; Arabac, 2009; Bebetsos & Antoniou; 2008, 2008; Silverman & Subramaniam; 2007; Rikard & Banville; 2006; Koca et al. 2005; Hodge & Jansma; 1999). Figley et al, 1985; Luke & Sinclair, 1991; Figley et al, 1985.

But there was no study to examine the association between parental attitudes and the attitudes of students toward physical education courses or to what extent parental attitudes predict the attitudes toward physical education courses..

The degree to which parental attitudes regarding physical education classes are linked to students’ attitudes toward physical education is critical from this perspective. Students’ attitudes toward physical education courses and their parents’ attitudes toward physical education courses are examined in this study to discover the degree of the relationship between the two.
